Quoting: GuestI've read some bad reviews of the Steam Controller. Has it been updated since and would anyone recommend it? Or should I wait until they release a new version some day?
I don't really need it at this time, I'm just thinking of playing around with it a bit.
Most of the negative review that I've read just talk about the durability, and I honestly have no idea what they're talking about. Mine has gotten heavy use since December and is still working perfectly. I highly recommend it. Being able to play Civilization V and other mouse-only games easily from the couch is worth the price alone.

Europa Universalis IV celebrates Midsummer and a million copies sold with a free music DLC

Quoting: Mountain ManParadox games don't have a learning curve, it's more of a learning cliff, but once you figure them out, they're terrific games. Unfortunately, Paradox has generally been terrible at explaining how to play their own games, but they're getting better! Each of their more recent games now has a comprehensive Wiki page that makes the learning process much easier than it used to be. Here's the one for Crusader Kings II:

I own Crusader Kings II, Europa Universalis IV, Stellaris, and Hearts of Iron IV, and any one of them can easily steal hours of my time.
Thanks Mountain Man! Didn't actually know about the wikis. I'll have to give it another go with wiki assistance. Maybe it can help me overcome my puny brain.

Paradox seems like a nice studio. This is a nice bonus, I think their support of Linux has really helped Linux gaming, and celebrating International Women's Day (an article I guess I missed) is really nice to hear about given the bad attitudes about women in gaming some loud gamers seem to have. I would like to play their games to support them, but the only game of theirs that I've tried (Crusader Kings) was too much for my puny brain! I guess I just need to try harder!

Defender's Quest Deluxe launched, a free upgrade for Defender's Quest: Valley of the Forgotten

I think I'm going to have to buy this again to thank the developer, especially because I got it in a Humble Bundle and the development probably did not get a very big cut. This kind of free support for an older game is really rare. Great game too, although I didn't play a lot of it; the low resolution bugged me when I first played it, so now that is fixed I hope to have time to play the whole thing!

Crea, a 2D ever-expanding sandbox RPG now fully released with Linux support, some thoughts

Big fan of Terraria and Starbound so I will definitely give this a go sometime! Also, all your commentary on the subject has given me valuable insight: if you're in to gaming avoid a two monitor setup! Thank you for letting us learn from your experience. I can't see how I would really benefit from another monitor and can't afford it anyway. Always kind of seemed like just a bragging rights exercise, but maybe it is useful for some things.

Rocket League is still coming to Linux, but there is no release date

Meh. I totally understand why everyone would be disappointed about this, but I can't convince myself to care because my Internet connection can't handle games. But even setting that aside, am I the only one who sees far less value in online-only multi-player games? I play a lot of single player games from 5+ (sometimes 10+) years ago because I don't have a lot of time for games and there is always a huge backlog of games I want to play. But online-multiplayer games seem doomed to be played for a while and then drop off the face of the earth, never to be played again because either the players abandoned the servers and there's nobody to play with or the company abandoned the servers and the game literally can't be played. I might move soon so my Internet issue might be fixed, but I do not expect my feelings on the low value of online multiplayer-only games to change.

Major Terraria update released with controller support, adventure maps and more

Terraria is my personal favorite sandbox-building-crafting-nebulous-genre game! It has so much more personality and polish than the majority of the genre, and that pays off tremendously in the long run. I played it before I played Minecraft, and I still prefer Terraria even though comparing the two is, and always has been, apples to oranges.

Quoting: wolfyrionA friend of mine called me that he had a logitech PS3 Wheel to give me for Free because he had no use for it.

http://support.logitech.com/en_my/product/driving-force-wireless [External Link]

Well I dont know the real reason why he didnt want to use it anymore , maybe he replaced his ps3 with ps4 and was not working? maybe it was not working in Windows ? or maybe he broke his ps3? :D

Well with my friend we have a small friendly fight Windows Vs Linux every time we meet...
Anyway I invited him to come to my house so we can test the Wheel...

At the start he was teasing me if there are any racing games available for Linux...
I told him that many racing games are available but we can play GRID Autosport since is one of the best racing games available in Linux...

Anyway I pluged in the Wheel ...and launched the game
(He got confused and said , ehh ... arent you going to install any drivers ??? how the heck is going to work???)

With a great surprise everything was working perfectly in the game , even the wheel was vibrating, shaking, etc and without any configuration...

You had to see his face... :woot:

I was surprised as well but now I have a racing wheel which I have to learn with it how to drive because is a bit hard atm ...
Win! :D
Exactly why Valve, GOL, and us Linux gamers need to talk about the ability of Steam Machines to use any controller! Nobody is talking about it, and it's the only console that can do it! It's been a subtle footnote in a few GOL articles, but they are always written like we already know about it! Maybe we know, but most people don't!

Anyway, thank you for the great comment Wolfyrion! I would have liked it to be a GOL article and not just a comment. I'm not actually sure if you're using SteamOS, but my point is still related even if you're not.

The itch games store is running "Itch.io week" starting today, celebrating their open marketplace
11 May 2016 at 12:00 pm UTC

I love itch.io. I first used it when I wanted to support the development of EC Wolfenstein 3D [External Link] by buying Super Noah's Arc 3D (ended playing that more than ECWolf actually) and the developer's site said he got a bigger cut on itch than on Steam. I was really impressed by the hassle-free store and array of DRM-free download options. And I love DRM-free!

A bunch of BIT.TRIP games just had the DRM free treatment on GOG with Linux support

Quoting: minjRunner for linux is still not on steam...
You're right about BIT.TRIP Runner. I don't know what the problem is there. It even shows up on my SteamOS partition's library as ready to install but when I do it downloads 0mb and says it's done. Playing it fails. I really wish they'd fix it because the Humble Bundle DRM-free Linux version works great; shouldn't be too hard. But it's been a long time now and I'm not optimistic. They should at least remove it from the SteamOS library. RUNNER 2 on the other hand works great on Steam/SteamOS.

I might pick up the GOG versions because they support their DRM-free versions better than Humble Bundle anyway.
