These are great games! Very underrated in my opinion. if you like fast paced, ultra-hard "blink and you die" games I highly recommend them.

Don't Starve Together leaving Early Access on April 21st

Quoting: pr4vusi appreciate when it is tied to steam instead. everything neat and tidy in one place. sweet stuff!... i mean common.... nobody (almost) plays via LAN anymore.
Please don't generalize to such a degree. I live in an area with rotten Internet access. LAN is the only way for me to play any non-local multi-player game.

Starbound just keeps on getting bigger and better

I was such a huge fan of Terraria that I bought two copies of this game (for co-op) back when they were doing pre-order/self-administrated crowd funding on their website. This was before it was released in early access. When it was released in early access I did play it for a good 15 hours, but I ran into many bugs, and it just "felt" very early access, which was a feeling I definitely did not like. Remembering that "feeling" of early access was what has kept me from buying any other early access games. I decided to not play it again until it reaches 1.0, but man has it been a long wait! I have to put the blame on the developer's over ambitiousness.

I'm sympathetic to the developers because other developers of early access/crowd funded have very frequently been chewed out for not including all the features they promised, and I think that is what the Starbound developers are trying not to do by taking so long. They are trying to deliver everything. But what I'm guessing they didn't take into consideration was that things that they had already developed and finished just wouldn't be satisfactory. Like the combat, back when I played it, was really pretty bad. It just felt hollow and there was no satisfaction gained from hitting enemies. They definitely needed to fix that, so even their habit of re-developing things is defensible. If they found other things that just weren't living up to their standards, I definitely won't say they did the wrong thing by reworking them. But throw on top of that all their other ambitions and it's not hard to see why it's been so long.

Right now, I wish they would scale back the features, polish the main core of the game, release 1.0 and deliver the rest of the features in free updates in future versions. There isn't a big difference between early access and releasing periodic updates to the stable game (other than the stability of the game) in terms of development, so they are obviously up for that kind of long-term development strategy. But a lot (and I do mean a lot) of people would rip them for not delivering on all the promised features in 1.0, so I see no perfect solution for them.

Real lesson: Scale back the ambitions from the start. If the promise of your core game isn't enough for people to crowd fund you without a million extra ambitious features, than maybe your core game needs work.

Yay! This looks like such a wonderful game! I'm a sucker for this kind of game where you can have cute little romances with cute little pixely sprite boys/girls. And it was rumored it allows same-sex relationships?? Insta-buy!!

Quoting: leillo1975DualShock 3 bluetooth! It's great
Seriously?? I knew that DualShock 3 (PS3 controllers) worked great on SteamOS just plugged in with a USB cable (I use them along with my Steam controller for multiplayer), but I thought a GOL article said that the bluetooth connectivity would never work for Dualshock 3; only Dualshock 4's bluetooth was expected to be gotten to work.

I'd love to test it myself, but I'm away from home away from my SteamOS machine. :(

While we're on the subject, I do not hear the feature of SteamOS being able to use almost all modern controllers out of the box advertised nearly enough! Even GOL hardly ever mentions this feature! A lot of people don't know about the feature too! Steam machines are the ONLY CONSOLE that can use ANY CONTROLLER! That's a big freakin' deal! Why is nobody talking about it??

Want to make an RPG game? Looks like RPG Maker MV may be coming to Linux
8 Mar 2016 at 1:58 am UTC

Great news! I've been really impressed with the RPG Maker games that Markiplier plays. Really cool games can be made with even the most simple and limited software (I don't actually know how limited this software is; probably not nearly as much so as people say).

But if I may rant a moment: "Want to make an RPG game??" "Want to make a 'Role Playing Game Game'???" Dammit people. It's not that hard! The G stands for "game!!"

I feel better now.

Massive Starbound update released, tons of new stuff

It certainly does look like they've done a ton! Good for them for doing Early Access well, albeit for a loooooooooong time now. I certainly hope they're going to get the SteamOS compatibility fixed soon. I've pretty much totally switched to SteamOS because I am really enjoying how it fixes all the vertical sync and controller compatibility problems that have plagued PC gaming (Windows very much included) for me for a long time.

Sublevel Zero, A First-person Roguelike Six-degree-of-freedom Shooter Coming To Linux

Nice! I'll be watching out for this one. I haven't seen any good Descent style games come out for Linux that have singleplayer modes. (Can't do mutliplayer on my rotten ISP)

Terraria Now Available DRM Free For Linux On GOG & Out Of Beta
12 Aug 2015 at 9:01 pm UTC

I've been a fan of Terraria for... 4 years seriously? God... I'm so old. Anyway, sudden Linux support for a dearly loved but formerly not Linux compatible game calls for just one thing... re-buy under Linux!!

I have yet to hear any word at all as to whether just downloading the newly available Linux game files for games that were originally counted as Windows sales would be at all encouraging to a developer's impression of the demand for Linux support, but unfortunately I think it is very unlikely that it would help at all. I'm inclined to just shell out the $10 to show a little support, even though $10 is not an insignificant amount to me. Sigh.

Celestian Tales: Old North A Beautiful Looking JRPG Styled Game Comes To Linux Next Month

That makes three of us! I'm all about DRM-free, I love GOG's respect for customers, and I love JRPGs! Speaking of which: above the video you say "JRPG game." Really? "Japanese Role Playing Game game?"

Edit: Also below the video: "RPG games." I'm sorry to nitpick; feel free to ignore me. I just can't stand that particular abuse of an acronym and I was compelled to point it out.
