Not sure there's anything to celebrate: as far as i can tell they might switch to directx 13 or 14 in the future, judging by how fast (slow) they are progressing ;-)

To be fair: if you are a 'hardcore' (however defined) gamer Linux isn't probably the best choice at the moment. I remember that even on Ubuntu main site they used to mention that there is another operating system if one is into gaming. I love linux, i don't dual boot, i don't play Windows games and i don't play on consoles, just being a realist: if you want to play the latest titles, with the highest available performance on a PC, then Windows is the go-to platform for the time being. And it doesn't have anything to do with 'real' gaming, it is just the way things are now.

Surely, bickering, fighting and fragmentation is what linux (gaming) community really needs...There must be some grand strategical idea behind this that i'm completely unable to fathom.

What I personally find interesting is that Windows users in the past repeatedly asked for ports from other platforms: huge petition to port Dark Souls, also asking to port Forza or Halo among others. Additionally with other software it is not unusual to ask developers to support other operating systems: Mac users: 'Bring FLStudio to us!'. Windows users: 'We want Logic!' (both are music production software). So what exactly is the problem with asking for ports?

great news...now being an old, obstreperous fart as myself and i know this topic was mentioned several times already in the past: 'PC, Mac and Linux' does my PC stop being a PC the moment i install Linux as my operating system? ;-)

Played the game on my brother's Windows rig - kind of a 'meh' experience to be honest. Surely it would be nice to have it on Linux but it's not such a killer, super-duper game as some people seem to think. More interested in Dirt Rally, hopefully we gonna get it one day.

What I personally would appreciate is a sort of communication/admission/explanation from the developers of some of those titles. In many cases they just go silent and don't respond to any queries. But there's nothing wrong with admitting 'ok, we're sorry it's not feasible, miscalculation on our part, too much work, not enough people' or something like that.

Not much to add here, apart from one thing maybe: even as a hardcore Windows user you would really want linux and linux gaming to succeed as much as is humanly possible - imagine the pressure on Microsoft to innovate and make Windows a better OS if linux had a high double digit desktop market share. Does it really take an Einstein to get it?
