The numbers are pretty disappointing, there's no way around it. The thing is there might quite many people 'fencesitting' so to speak - they would ditch Windows in favour of linux if the latter offered adequate gaming experience. Ports like this one, while certainly playable and enjoyable, will not convince a lot of folks to change the os, or even dual-boot.
Bashing the porters or ranting is not necessary either - it's important the issue will be seriously investigated: as I said before, people reported low/very low CPU utilization during gameplay, maybe it's something worth looking into.

On the one hand it's great to have the game on linux, but on the other developers/porters cannot get a free pass just because a game has been released on the platform.
And personally I think it's slowly about time we moved from the 'wonderful the game is on linux!' mentality to the 'sweet, it runs very well, doesn't drop to unplayable framerates and doesn't crash' one.

Calling it 'very well optimized' is an overstatement. Let's just say it runs and is playable.
The issues have to be named and called out directly so that progress could be made - hopefully this stuff can be patched, regardless of whether it's port or driver problem.

Quoting: legluondunet61 to 154 fps it is enough to have a good gampleay isn't it?only in the benchmark, the actual game can go into low 20s or even 10s at times. That can be nasty and for some people unplayable.

People report that CPU utilization in the game is low/very low (on phoronix and computerbase forums). Hopefully this could be patched and performance improved.

When the author says he can see differences in image quality (very minor) and you say you can't, we've reached an impasse.
Further, number of people (here, on phoronix and computerbase forum) playing linux version of the game report poor performance in some particularly intensive stages of the game, despite having good benchmark numbers.

Quoting: dubigrasu@GirlGamerThe other explanations then would be the test procedure was flawed, or the author lied. Neither of which seems to make sense because ComputerBase is a respected site with years of experience of testing and benchmarking. Additionally they regularly publish articles about linux and there was even one titled 'Gaming on linux? Why not?'
Yes, the game goes lower in performance later on while in real action (so it does in Windows), but I still find those numbers way off. I also find a bit suspicious what he said about differences in image quality, (because there's really no difference) and makes me think think that he didn't bother too much to assure identical settings/scenes in his tests.

the German site ComputerBase tested the port against its Windows counterpart and the numbers look pretty bad:

From what I understand they used two especially intensive testscenes instead of the integrated benchmark. With normal and low settings the difference in fps is mindboggling. I wonder if all this could be explained by either port or driver quality (or maybe both).

Great to see the game on linux. One question though: how does this port stack up against running the game through wine? Anyone had the opportunity to compare?

isn't this somewhat similar to Project Cars situation? if memory serves me right we were promised SteamOS/Linux version (in 2015), the developers have been quiet about the game but had no problems with announcing Project Cars 2, which, ahem, of course, also will be available on linux...
