Steam drops the Lunar New Year Sale, we're getting a big Spring sale instead

Anyhow, there's only one kind of deal that I only ever saw on the big sales: Rocksmith DLC. And with the new Rocksmith upon us, I fear those times are over.

Quoting: ElectricPrismI always hoped that the Winter & Summer sales would be the BIGGEST of the year.I'd say the publishers/devs make the sales. Valve sets the dates, yet to me it's the number of reduced titles on my wishlist, the amount of new recommendations in Liams posts and the actual % that make a sale big... And as far as I know that's not directly up to Valve, is it? :D

Quoting: eldakingI'd say one big sale every four months would make even more sense.Quoting: bepopOne sale event less is better for consumers? Since when? Do you like paying more for games? It is not less events, it is more evenly spaced out events. Instead of having the big sales on November, December and early February, it is now November, December and late March.
I expect there will still be a minor sale in the same date, just as often there was some sort of spring sale but it was not as "good" as the big seasonal ones. But they flipped which is the bigger sale.

I don't think real-time multiplayer is on the table because it would sound so horribly, it wasn't even fun any more. Turn-table multiplayer is really really great already. Maybe video could be streamed to a TV in larger groups so everyone can see what you are supposed to do and what crazy stuff is happening in the background.

Quoting: PhiladelphusI had to go and watch Liam's video again, I got that much enjoyment from it. Does anyone know if they happen to have plans for support for custom songs or multiplayer? 'cause that might be an insta-buy for me.No idea about custom songs. I sure hope so. Had some fun with freeplay mode and spotify in the background. Found this might actually be a valid musical instrument. We sometimes have jam sessions in the house and I seriously consider hooking this up for it :D

We played it with two people yesterday, just switching after every run and couldn't stop laughing :)

Quoting: PhiladelphusStop, Liam! My sides can only take so much laughter! 😂 Not at your playing (I certainly wouldn't be any better), just at the entire inherently hilarious concept. It's funny because just this weekend I was idly musing about games being developed for the Deck where its gyroscope would be an important part of the game, and here one is!Ha, and I searched for a fun, super casual rhythmgame for the Deck for a while.

If a new native game isn't explicitly build against a Steam Runtime or similar, problems will probably come up at some point since distributions are still not providing a solid platform.
For the moment, I'm quite happy with the native situation. We still see some of these and I'm under the impression, it's back to pre-proton numbers since the SteamDeck is making things happen. Current native releases are mostly very good, because they are done by the actual developers and because these want to. That's a serious plus. To again get big native releases - and this time proper ports that actually do better then wine - SteamOS based devices and their influence on big game engines are our only hope. Let's cross our fingers, but I won't hold my breath. Linux gaming has never shined brighter then now :)

Quoting: AsciiWolfIt's still an issue and one to project into the future.Quoting: legluondunetDid you try to play old Linux native games? It is not that bad. Usually, most of the issues are quite easy to solve. I play UT2004 natively on my Fedora 36, it is an out-of-box experience thanks to Luxtorpeda, but it was not that hard to get working even without using Luxtorpeda or Lutris - just copy new versions of some libs to the UT2004/System directory, then edit one line in UT2004 config file, at least if I remember correctly. Similar "tweaking" is also common on Windows and its gaming community. Sure, backward compatibility of Windows is sadly way better, but many games still need various tweaks and fixes to be able to run properly on latest versions of Windows.
It's a very difficult task to launch them on recent Linux distributions.
Today it's more easy to launch a Windows game on Linux than an old Linux native game.

This replaced Aperture Desk Job as my showoff game for the Deck. It's just instant fun, both playing and looking over the shoulder.
I play even worse then Liam, but who cares?

Valve finally fixes up the Steam Deck on-screen keyboard some more

- remove double mapping of LT/RT depending on state, it's damn irritating
- additional keys, like esc, f1-f12...
- augmented typing/auto-completion at least based on history (like why do I need to type my whole email address again and again in 2022)
- transparent mode and blind-typing mode where only the currently hovered keys are shown for each touchpad

Quoting: gradyvuckovicVery nice improvement for the onscreen keyboard.I'd add
If I could have two wishes for the onscreen keyboard, I'd ask for these two features:
- An option to manually move the keyboard around the screen (and remembering the last position).
- A 'compact' mode where the keyboard is 2/3rds of it's current size.
With that, it'd be near perfect.

Quoting: PenglingI just had time for my first-ever run, and lasted 11:25;Gosh, that might be a really good project to try out Godot 4. :)
I've already fallen in love with it*. I can definitely see myself getting a lot out of this one - thanks again Liam!
*Give me a "Bomberman Survivors" and I think I'd be in heaven!

Quoting: ScytaleI absolutely agree. The first runs are short and may be frustrating some people, but because the game grants you exp anyway and you level up, there is a certain point it will simply tick and become incredibly satisfyingQuoting: pbTo each their own, but my kids bought this game a couple months ago, based on the hype, and from what I see, they only played ~1h each before getting bored. Personally I did two runs and it didn't appeal to me at all.Well, not every game is for everybody. VS is a very specific niche, and in my case I got over 80h playtime for the ~2€.
Speaking of the steam reviews... I should probably buy it immediately, no? ;-)
Imho VS gets more fun after you managed to hit the 20 min mark and successfully evolve a weapon. Reaching the powerspike when everything comes together is satifying.

Quoting: GuestYour sources? :DQuoting: Liam DaweAccording to my sources, the rate of manufacturing defects for Steam Deck is far higher than it should be, which could simply because Valve have only shipped less than 150,000.Quoting: GuestEven now, far too many Decks are shipping with defects that should be detected and rectified in the factory.People only think there is because of confirmation bias. The community is still overall relatively small and so voices about defects can easily cut through the noise. I can guarantee you the rate of failures are pretty normal for mass production.
Hopefully the manufacturing process continues to improve.
