Valve opens official Steam Deck repair centers

In the end, I think the reason for Valve is simple to grasp. While they don't stop us from opening the device, they don't want to encourage us either. There are probably also not enough people with ee diplomas reaching out to them to create a separate process, including the verification of these. Support hours are also resources to manage.

If shelling out money for replacing it yourself is still more appealing to you then the RMA, you might consider to upgrade to those magnetic stick replacements. Heard they are a little superior because they need way less deadzone and are pretty much immune to drifting.

Edit: They are from gulikit, cost $30, too

Consider that we need somewhere to put the cancer/blind outrage output and that visiting reddit isn’t very useful for immediate reactions. Avoid it, vote with your wallet (browser).
I'd agree if reddit wouldn't contribute a degradation in culture that spreads outside its domain. As some people say, that critique might go to most social media. Can't really tell, as I stopped using these years back (serious QoL improvement)

Quoting: TheColdOneI feel a bit bummed since I'm in it purely for the case + travel cover to make it a little easier to toss in my bag. It does suck that no one seems to be showing signs of an alternative to that specific aspect of the killswitch product.
Someone did show a case that does exactly that, but I think it's only announced. Spigen or JSAUX, iirc. No doubt it will get upvoted like crazy once available.

Well, at least we've got a lovely one here with a growing weekly focal-point in the form of the "Weekend Playlist" posts by @itscalledreality - and it's Friday, so this week's thread should hopefully be along soon. Let's keep it growing.
Damn, I always tell myself to use the forum here more often rather then reddit.
My key critizism of reddit is that it clearly is competition to well handled, well structured forums. Reddits uprise plain killed a lot of them for the simple reason it became the juggernaut. Sadly, big eats small is everywhere on the net, yet often you can make out the reason in quality. With reddit, I can't.

I replied to some very angry guy that it's just about another case, so there is no need to get emotional.
He replied so angry that his post was deleted by some mods without me asking for it, yet my post was downvoted like crazy. Don't really care for the downvotes, it's reddit. Just wanted to illustrate how mobbish the mob has become.

Lashing out isn't appropriate, but like it was said above that seems a reddit specialty. On the other hand it sounds like you tried to dismiss a seemingly valid complaint by someone who spent money on a product only to have a sketchy company play shenanigans. That is rude and infuriating. It doesn't matter what the product is, someone spent money and to have random people come in and white knight for a janky company only escalates the frustration. Getting screwed over by businesses not fulfilling their promises, while having little to no recourse, is maddening. It makes people feel helpless so of course they're going to get emotional. Why would you not empathize instead and then come to this forum for validation? Did you maybe consider you were part of the emotional escalation issue as well and that's why people down-voted you? I probably would have too if I had seen that thread and comment. What we need is more empathy in this world not people telling others to suck it up and deal with it. But then maybe I'm reading too much into all this. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Regarding the company, this sounds horrible and they strike me as incredibly unprofessional. Don't think I'd want to do business with them at all unless maybe they sold packages through a reputable retailer.
I take I could have sent a little more empathy, yet I don't take being the source or target of the anger.
Reddit is open space and if one person gives valid criticism of a company, I empathize. If hundreds of people start to create topic after topic after topic and help each other get in rage, I can't and I won't.
Also, frankly, the whole part of them screwing their customers is completely constructed. Had they made just the package people claim was promised - case, thumb covers and cover - and made it $100, it would have been completely in frame of expectation. Instead, they added something here and made something else optional and all in all, it fell well beyond the expected price.
A agree I won't buy this thing and they should give back the $3 to people who don't agree with that package. I also agree they could have prevented the outrage, but that doesn't make the outrage just.

[I] Doesn't Exist: AI Breathes New Life Into Text Adventures
3 Sep 2022 at 9:13 am UTC Likes: 2

I gave it a try. Couldn't really feel any difference to the text adventures of old times. Sure, keywords were a little more wild, like I could use shortened versions of these - but else? There were quite a few situations where I thought I might get additional info about the situation by asking different ways - no chance, always the same answer. Like in the starting position after the first puzzle, the AI insists there is only a Safe there, yet the graphical part shows 3 distinct objects. The note I read earlier, the safe and something that looks like a bar or a handle. I also couldn't make it cut out a piece of the chain to take with me or put out the fire with water.
Granted, I haven't played a text adventure for a good time, but other then the relaxed use of keywords, I couldn't find a difference, so I lost interest quickly. On the other sides, the clear vocabulary of of older adventures certainly helped staying focused. I fear this will be missing here.

Is it only reddit though? Maybe reddit is a reflection of society. It's rather polarized IMHO. Try to post something with some humor in a thread like that and watch them bite your head off.
I don't think it's a reflection of society as a whole. Go to different places on reddit and you will see different grades of the shitshow, yet it will always be worse then dedicated forums used to be. It's a reflection of the general communication model of reddit, the low entry point to jump a sub overwhelming mods, the part of society contributing to the sub and what communication culture those are used to. I also think the fact there are no subsubs is raising the tension a lot. Filtering with flairs is just damn bad.

Linux user share on Steam continues the slow climb, SteamOS rises

Quoting: constJust looked at the full stats and windows lost .8% while OSX upped .76. We got .04...

Kind of crazy that OSX gaming is still growing faster then us, while Apple is doing more harm then good to gaming on their platform.
Looking at the change of just one month is pointless, Valve's data is too inaccurate for that. Case in point: there was an uncommon spike in Russian language users last month and most of the Linux gain this month comes from the reverse of that spike, Linux only gained 0.01% points for English language users. MacOS lost about half of their user base in the last two years, so this is hardly a trend.
Interesting. Is their any site to watch these trends? Don't feel like manually doing that :D
