I had thought about buying it at some point in the future until he made a lot of anti-Linux statements. I'm sure there are a lot of other Linux users of a similar mindset.

After VP released TW2 a lot of us complained and a few of us stuck in contact with them both in their bug tracker and privately and helped them fix up performance beyond the occasional stutter. Since then I haven't had any trouble with their ports to the point that I wouldn't mind if they ended up being given the job of porting TW3, assuming their wrapper is becoming advanced enough to support the full range of graphical effects.
Also I would encourage anyone having trouble with a Feral port to keep in touch with them as they are often able to suggest fixes or hook you into testing branches to get a better handle on things.

An i7 is somewhat useful since it is powerful enough to cut through the translation overhead of any wrappers... however the return diminishes vastly when there's no way to upgrade the GPU. If you had the i3 model and no GPU upgrade-ability it might be cost effective every few years to drop say $300 on the next Steam Machine iteration (esp if they had a "step up" program so you kept being able to buy the next one at a steep discount). However most of the time when you buy an i7 you will not need to upgrade your PC other than the GPU for quite a long time. People with PC's they built nearly 10 years ago with the first iterations of i7 processors are still finding them usable for basically everything as long as they have a newish GPU.

SteamOS actually uses its own compositor, in order to allow smooth transition between BPM and applications.
Edit:
To the above question about borderless window: No, if an application is not exclusive fullscreen it won't set the flag required to bypass the compositor.

For me the sweet spot is still $300-350 before I would consider buying one... buy I have definitely considered it a few times in the past. The hardware revision they are talking about is on the level of what I'd hoped to see really.

The Talos Principle in the end isn't really like Portal at all, even if it seems that way at first.

When I played the game in Wine ages ago the most demanding sections were:
Waterfalls by the wolf den
Shanty Town
And one other place I can't remember. It did seem to coincide with those alpha effects.
Even now for example if you go to the campfire by the wolf den near the beginning segments (can't remember the name of the location sorry) and look at the waterfall you'll see a massive FPS drop. If you look slightly in either direction so the waterfall is off screen it picks back up again. Only thing I can guess is that there's a stall somewhere in the pipeline with those effects.

In the benchmark at least that only gained me a couple of fps. Does it make a larger difference in-game?
