A Four Way Comparison For Alien: Isolation Shows Off The Performance Difference

I wonder what the difference is if you run Nvidia driver 355.11, since that's what's recommended in the README.
My Own Thoughts On The Steam Controller, Flawed, But Fun

For the Gyro what I do is assign it to activate on Right Pad Touch, and then it's always on but only when I'm already moving the camera. The additional benefit is that any time I'm not touching the right pad the gyro gets a chance to reset.

I was able to get Fallout New Vegas set up as a non-steam application and play it with the Steam Controller. The downside here is that if you go to the overview at ALL it kills the mouse click inputs for some reason (even from my actual mouse). On the bright side I was able to get a pretty nice overall setup (that I'm still getting used to/tweaking). Too bad the in-game prompts are wrong but eh, nothing you can do there. One thing that was nice is that because of mode shifting/switching I can click down on the right pad and the left pad and stick act as number keys so I can still do quick weapon switches.
Not sure how much I'll actually play it but I was curious and it's nice to know it works!

Grow Home From Ubisoft Now On SteamOS & Linux

Anyway, I bet Ubisoft has the tools and pipeline that they could crank out quick and dirty Linux ports, but they are definitely conscious of the returns a given project will have and tend to play it safe. Based on their other platform support they look for at least 3% of their sales to come from a particular platform before they consider investing the time and energy. Yes, for a lot of developers that have talked about their sales publicly it seems that Linux/SteamOS falls into that range, but with a reported market of 1% of users it's not a guarantee at this point. Give it a (long) while before you expect to see more.

Quoting: CreakFar Cry Smar Cry, you worked on ZombiU which is one of the best games to have come out in years (and not just out of Ubisoft).Quoting: adolsonNope, I am indeed a Ubisoft developer, I worked on Far Cry 4 notably (http://creak.foolstep.com/romain-failliot.en.html) ;)Quoting: berillionsI really doubt Creak was saying he/she works for Ubisoft. I think they were talking about the fact that Reflections is a Ubisoft studio. May be a case of ESL?Quoting: CreakThat is... surprising! You are really an Ubisoft Developer ? :O
As a Ubi developer, I didn't expect that ;)
I'm quite alone here being interested in SteamOS, Linux, etc... that's why I'm surprised that a Ubisoft game was actually ported to Linux. I think it's a pretty good news actually.

For those experimenting with controller setups, try a Mouse Joystick setup for games where you can't simply set Mouse as the right pad (some games don't support simultaneous input). I also found that adding the gyro at a really low sensitivity allows me to fine tune my aiming. I know there are already some setups that use it, but just confirming that it really does help.
I really don't like the feeling of joystick input on the trackpads though, maybe it's just me.
Also some games like Alien Isolation have decent defaults, and other games like Dying Light you'll have to tweak and tweak. In general it does take a lot of getting used to. It's a pretty different/alien setup, even moreso for people like me who generally play on older/Nintendo controllers so all of the buttons are flipped.
Damn you Microsoft (actually it was SEGA first on the Dreamcast) for flipping the buttons!

The price is ridiculous but this kind of hardware I would buy without much hesitation... but at max $600.

Quoting: omer666Wii received Call of Duty games much later than every other console. It also never had any mainline Final Fantasy and never got Assassins Creed, Grand Theft Auto, Batman, Fallout, Skyrim, Crysis, Resident Evil (except a re-release of RE4), Tomb Raider 2013, etc.Quoting: GuestThe Wii doesn't have all those AAA titles either, yet the Wii also lacks the 1500+ games that Linux has, many of which are other AAA titles. You're talking about Wii U I guess ? Because not only did the Wii get a lot of games (1527 according to Wikipedia), but it also got a lot of big Japanese RPG titles, big platformers, all of the CoD shit and so on.
Wii U, is another matter...

Quoting: Segata SanshiroThe choice of GPU just blows my mind.... Why use a mobile GPU and not something like a custom 750ti or even 960? I understand that it's super small and looks cute, but if it was just a little bit bigger it could have so much more power at a similar price.Actually the GPU has been modified a bit in clock speeds and such and should get the same (about) performance as a 750 Ti. It does suck that it can't be swapped out ever though. I have a pretty beefy PC and am waiting to see what the second iteration of this box looks like before I jump in, although it is exciting to see something so simple and with such a nice form factor.

Hmm probably the lack of The Witcher 3. I was also pretty interested in Mad Max and Payday 2 and MM just disappeared and PD2 is delayed.

So quick specs:
i7 4770k @4ghz
GTX 970 SSC (so overclocked)
8GB RAM
Ubuntu 15.04
Nvidia driver 355.11
Anyway, the game seems to run always over 60@1920x1200 with everything on full blast.
I will give a warning though, setting FOV higher than 55 has gameplay implications. You can no longer see all of your limbs and can end up bumping into things unexpectedly. This is due to the FOV being vertical rather than horizontal as might be expected. However 55 doesn't give me motion sickness like the default of 47 does.
