Palworld hits 19 million players in less than two weeks - beating the latest Pokémon

Social Media marketing in play.

FYI Nintendo has been VERY hostile towards social media marketing. I think latest I heard is they want a %50 cut in profits from streamers who dare play their IP. (could be wrong, but they certainly have a bad rap for going after anyone who makes videos of their games)

GE-Proton 8-28 released with ULWGL support for non-steam games

Well it depends on how you run it. Try heroic launcher, or Lutris, and maybe bottles. Sometimes only 1 of those apps lets me run a game for some odd reason.

So this will basically do very little when used within steam, but if you use it outside of steam it should in theory work a lot better. Automagically?

Never Grave from the Palworld developer looks a lot like Hollow Knight

The developer certainly looks at other games and says, "how can we make sometime similar but improve it".
I think this is where all the hate comes from even thought their doing nothing wrong.

It's the game fanatical fandom that happens which is the problem, instead we should just be happy getting games that are fun to play provided there isn't direct copy-pasting of code/sound/models being done. (or cloning I guess)

At present its not illegal to make a game that looks/plays similar as others, there is huge quantity of trash on steam/mobile that clone others over and over. We seem to only care when this happens and its actually a good similarity/parody that plays well. (Palworld)

Quoting: Mountain ManSo I can make what is effectively a carbon copy of another 3D modeler's work and call it my own as long as I scale my model up or down?

More or less, provided you made it yourself. But also tweak some details to make it transformative.

I think there is some legal thing where it needs to be %10 different.

But it also comes down to what influenced the original model, is it really unique or just another copy of something else.

Quoting: pleasereadthemanualMy personal belief is that this is not enough to constitute a derivative work...but I'm not sure how the courts saw it.

It's very hard to judge without actually reading through those two books and comparing it in it's full context rather then nit picking out similarities and base opinion on that.

Quoting: pleasereadthemanualOut of curiosity, do you have an opinion on Tanya Grotter?

Yeah I don't know how original the Harry Potter books were or if they took ideas from other media (likely).

But those similarities seem mostly fine to me. It's very obvious Tanya is inspired by Harry Potter book series, almost in a mocking sort of way, lol (is it a parody?)

Quoting: Talon1024There is already clear-cut solid evidence of plaigiarism on the part of Pocketpair.

You seem to fail to even listen to what anyone is saying. Simply making something very similar is NOT illegal or grounds for massive legal pursuits, especially when those concepts were taken from games/media before it!

You are basically saying the idea of these models is OWNED by Nintendo/Pokemon, but they really aren't, and if they won a case on that basis, it would send shock-waves throughout the gaming industry because it would open a legal pandora's box.

In case its not blunt enough. You can't sue based on similarities to works of arts you stole the ideas from other games/media!

The people continuing to ignore this obvious fact or listen to reasoning have clear bias motive in play.
