Quoting: ScottCarammell
Quoting: AsciiWolfDoes the native port work on a standard Linux system?
I've seen people say it doesn't work for them, but for me at least it does - and it runs MUCH better than through Proton. Still not great mind you (~40 FPS in most areas), but still better (Proton was like ~20 FPS most of the time).
Are these for steam deck? 40fps is pretty good for steamdeck for this type of game so If they can get the last BG city running at that, then its good. (BG being the most fps taxing part of the game)

Good, lets get rid of these terrible companies like Activation/Blizzard etc that block Linux and release terrible games.
Get better Indie Alternatives that support steam-deck and Linux, its the era of Indie/Small developers IMO!
The big corporation developers have no clue what their doing and are loosing loyal fans at geometric rate!

Playnite may get a Linux version during 2026 as the creator plans a move to Linux

What ton of Features so we get from Play it that we can't get from heroic and RetroArch?
Usually people tell me that they find too many settings confusinf and want a turn key solution
More then possible to list. Look at the addons. Everything is addable on top. You aren't assaulted with a universe of features all on one page.

It's designed to bring everything together and cater to everyone, there are no doubt complicated features in some addons but most a pretty straight forward.

If you want zero customization and no options then stick with what's already available.

Neat, I used to use this under Windows and it was a fun app that had lots of useful plugins that let you basically hook up everything into it.

People should go have a look at all the plugins, you'll be surprised as to what it could do, basically had everything you could imagine in one when it came to gaming.

Valve reveal the new Steam Frame, Steam Controller and Steam Machine with SteamOS

I'm not sold on the LCD and FOV, but time will tell.

Also worried this will just be way too closely down under, thought Valve does now sell direct to AU customers so that helps.
BUT economy here is being held up entirely by massively overpriced housing, if the bubble bursts, Australia is finished.
Meanwhile nobody can find/afford a place to live...

Probably still 1080p.
Going to largely come down to the game. But I assume it at least has PROPER access to FSR4? lets hope so.

Ultimately I think it will come down to price. People will be comparing this to PS5/XBSX prices and if its double or triple those consoles it may not sell well. Same with the VR headset, if its over 1000usd I think it won't sell as well as VR is already NICHE.

outside of outliner concerns like the PC system memory upgradability and lower then expected fov on the VR headset, oh and how is pitch black? The biggest question is always price.

When Steam Machines flopped back then, it was because Proton wasn't ready.
Actually it was also because the cost kept going up(or varied); if people remember the steam machine was being made by MANY companies and cost a LOT and also didn't even come with SteamOS most the time, as it was Windows.

Basically it just became a prebuilt PC bundle of rando companies ABC. Certainly didn't help that SteamOS was FAR FAR from ready and Windows was just bad for a gaming machine.

MangoHud performance overlay for Linux gets a first v0.8.2 release candidate

The biggest issue I've had with Mangohud is having control of where to place the data on screen.
The normal location assignments don't always work well.
Wish it had a better placement system.
