Nekro has been abandoned by one of the creators, the story isn't so clear

Quoting: Ignis@Storminator16, lawyers are fine but slow. It's not like you can't do both.
Trust me, I know and they are huge pain$ when you need one. However, there is nothing lawful about a message board post. That's he said/she said in the court of kangaroo. If he doesn't have anything legally binding that is a basis for a civil case, then he should just move on with his life.

In this situation, I just don't have any sympathy for the developers and those who gave money. I guess I'm too old to see everything that went wrong in that Steam message board post, including the fact there is a Steam message board post.

When we buy games that complete, we are taking a risk; we may end up not really caring for our purchase. When we pre-order or crowd fund something, that risk is greatly magnified. And like MountainMan said earlier, we are 100% taking a risk when we do pre-order or crowd fund.

So, it is what it is. I've kick started (I believe) 3 games in the past year. Will I ever see them? I don't know and I don't even remember when the final release dates are expected to be. I know I'm suppose to have beta access to one of them but I haven't seen a beta access e-mail. The reason I gave my hard earned funds? To give the developer's at least a chance. I took a risk. If I ever see those games, that would be a nice surprise but I'm not losing sleep over them.

That guy may want to just get a lawyer and not f'ing appeal to gullible gamers. Of course, what should one expect when this is the same guy who allegedly went in a 50% partnership with someone, allegedly got swindled out all pay, and allegedly made bad decisions based on alleged business plan. Haven't we seen this movie before?

These are not one-offs. Developers are people too. When we "crowd fund" (I really can't think of a better way to say that without saying "kick start" ) product, we should expect 50% chance we'll see the fruit of our investment. However, gamers don't want to see the risk or even realize they took a risk when they give Johnny B. Dev money for, possibly, empty promises. Crowd funding a product shouldn't exude a level of trust. It's a risk. The only folk's "confidence and trust in this sort of development" is being eroded are the gamers who just don't see it as a risk. That is the real problem. This is serious business, not Monopoly.

If you don't want to take a risk, stop taking risks. I'm not saying don't crowd fund, I'm just saying think about what you are doing.

Fair question.

A rather funny developer got their fake game "Watch Paint Dry" on Steam without Valve seeing

Yeah, I see 'Gaming on Windows 10' too. Someone hacked you, bro.

Probably that jack ass kid you posted this article about. Next he'll probably ask you for money because that is what he asked Valve.

(Wait, this 'Gaming on Windows 10' blip an April Fool's joke? Should be a law against this.)

So much this. Too much history to say otherwise.

I've tried Empathy on Linux but not much else. Used mIRC in my old Windows days.

I didn't realize the irc room existed. God, I miss the old days. Lived in IRC from '98-'01.

RollerCoaster Tycoon World now planning on Early Access, Linux is not day-1

Quoting: edoI wouldn't be too worried, if they decided to go on the early access route is because the game still need some polishing, and porting to another platform shouldn't be a priority on this situation.
I hope it will be released to linux once the full version becomes available.
Here is my beef: how was this product originally budgeted? It's not the gamers' bag to fund something to conclusion. The easy assumption is that the finished product will be a fun, polished game. Well, the current track history for this game shows clearly a low chance of that happening.

Development costs money. With each passing month, the expenses are mounting with little to no revenue to offset. They should ask for more funding from the publisher or seek additional capital elsewhere. Early Access may help if there is enough interest but I don't know. Early Access should be the last resort. Since EA wasn't originally on the road map, why should gamers be so gullible to fund them? In the past, a game in this situation would have been canceled. Now, developers have been given a "get out of jail" card that may not help them. I doubt it well help gamers unless relieving you of some money is called "helping".

I wouldn't be shocked if this game is canned late April or early May or released as an unpolished mess with even more features cut.

It's not about just Linux for me. It's about gamers feeding into the commercial beast known as crowd funding and Early Access. The business acumen displayed by some of these developers is a put off for me. I'm not saying it's all bad but for the love of Baby Mario, pick your games to fund wisely. Spend that $50 on indie games or fund another game with a better track record with hopes of being released. =)
