So if I had to choose between the XBox 360 controller and the Steam Controller, the latter is actually the best choice? Even if I dual boot or use WINE for some games?

This game seems really bad optimized: with Radeonsi it struggles to reach 30fps at 720p with low details. Tried it using Wine and it works like under Windows: FullHD, everything maxed, high FPS.
I'm confused! :dizzy:

I suggest to go to SteamDB [External Link], take a look at the "most played games" and see how many games have been ported to Linux in the 15 first positions: the situation seems rather good to me.
That said: Broforce game of the year into the "Arcade" category, and you forgot the newly released "Bound by flame" action-RPG and "Victor Vran" (if you put Torchlight 2 in the list, this deserves to be in too).

I did a quick test comparing Windows 7 and Linux version on my machine: I have an AMD Radeon 7850 card with 1 Gb. The difference is abysmal: under Windows I can play in FullHD with everything maxed and the game is very fluid.
Under Linux the game runs near or for the most part under 30 fps with everything to low and 720p resolution, AMD Catalyst 15.9 driver. The open source driver radeonsi can't handle this game and crashes the PC with GPU lockups.
What's the situation on the NVidia side?

Game crashes on Manjaro Linux with radeonsi driver right after the two first videos. I'm not using the Steam Runtime to run the game, but I have all the 32 bit libs needed by the executables.
My specs:
CPU AMD A10-7850K, 8 GB RAM, GPU AMD Radeon 7850 1 GB, FullHD Monitor. Kernel 4.2.6, 64 bit, Mesa 11.0.6, Xorg 1.17.

I'm checking SteamDB every day for these games and I can tell you that even Saints Row II has a port depot regularly updated.

They are releasing also OpenCS, an editor to create new adventures/mods based on this engine. From the site FAQ [External Link]:
OpenMW is a new and modern engine based on the one that runs the 2002 open-world RPG Morrowind. The engine (OpenMW) will come with its own editor (OpenCS) which will allow the user to edit or create their own games.
