Quoting: F.UltraThe Dolphin Team received legal counsel back in the Steam page debacle and are quite firm in their belief that they do not violate any US laws, including the DMCA.You only build defenses if you expect attack. Besides, you don't have to breach a city's defenses to win, you just have to starve them out.

I think I'll quote Nerrel here:
"The Dolphin team could have quit 5 or 6 years ago and it would still be one of the most mature and competent emulators ever made, but the fact that they're still chipping away at it at the same pace as ever is inspiring."

Quoting: CybolicAs someone who has never played one of these games before, I can't say that trailer did a good of convincing me to pick it up; it did leave me confused though, so that's something! :grin:I know. I grew up wanting to play these games because they seemed so cool. This trailer makes them look boring.

Wh..Why is Arnie yelling about castles?
In all seriousness, I'm not impressed with the demo. The pace notes are supposed to tell me what kind of turns are ahead, not monologue about hard winters and give out irrelevant quips. And physics....exist. I get that this is an early build of a presumably indie arcade rally game, and they are clearly going for some kind of aesthetic, but unfortunately it's not for me.

And personally, I believe that people should have the right to use a piece of software any way they choose. DRM, platform exclusives, attacking emulation, I see all this as dismissing and undermining the fundamental right to your own property. If I want to buy a Tesla battery pack, a Nissan Leaf drivetrain, and shove them both into a completely different vehicle, that's my prerogative. Digital property should be no different.

Quoting: LoftyEmulation is meant for game preservation and nostalgia.Emulation is meant for emulation. Please don't fall into the trap that so many do, pigeonholing emulation (or anything else) by saying "it's just for this" and that anything that falls outside that specific use is somehow wrong. People want to play games. Many people want to play games in the best possible situation, be that comfort, visual quality, features, etc.... The Nintendo Switch is not the best platform to play games.

Quoting: GuestThat making genuinely good games, making them available, and supporting them in the long run will usually lead to success. Just look at Stardew Valley for a very recent example. Highest player count ever after the last update. The companies that make games should love and cherish them as much as we do.Quoting: chuzzle44the fact that I'm willing to buy a remake of a game I already have for free says...that software houses needs to make remakes to fight piracy?

I have a bunch of GBA games that I got through...totally legit means, and this game is one of them. I played it on a whim, I don't even like point and click games, but darned if I didn't enjoy it. Never finished it, but I'm definitely going to picking this remake up. The only question is if I can talk myself into getting the collectors edition.
And slightly off topic, but the fact that I'm willing to buy a remake of a game I already have for free says a lot about how pointless anti-piracy measures are. If I hadn't already played it, I wouldn't have cared. And I never would have bought it in the first place.

I apologize in advance for the snark.....and the rant....
"30% is too much!"
So don't put your games on Steam.
"But our games don't sell off Steam!"
Gee, I wonder why?
This has to be one of the most brain-dead arguments I've ever heard. No, Valve doesn't have to take 30%. They could take 10% if they wanted. Or 90%. Or anything in between. It is the most basic economics. They take what the market will bear. If 30% was too much, they would be forced to lower it just to compete. If it was too little they would have either been ran over by a more expensive, and more feature rich, competitor, or gone bankrupt. Likewise, if they took 30% but didn't reinvest it into their product, they wouldn't be where they are now. It isn't black magic, corporate fascism, nostalgia, market dominance, or any other bunk explanation for why Steam is the absolute king of PC gaming. Make what people want. Value what you create and strive to make it better. Pride, gluttony, and greed aren't what destroy you, it is the lack of the corresponding virtues, humility, temperance, and generosity. Yes, Valve is greedy. They have also done more for gaming than any other company in the last 10-20 years.
