Good deals going this week for Linux gamers, a quick look

Quoting: callehThe long dark looks interesting. As any one tried it lately? I'm cautious to buy it. How is the linux version?
It works well, I had no problems with bugs, but to be honest, Sandbox mode is quite boring and unless they finally come up with story mode, which was promised to be released Spring 2016, I can't recommend to buy it.

Nice, that looks like Uridium on C64 back in the days.

Quoting: ellie_feralIt's playable, but that doesn't mean it's releasable. Mysterious, right?
Are you seriously trying to tell me that the game will not be in a releasable state one day before its release? When did you plan to finish the port, one minute before release?
Sorry, not buying that, and this is why I spoke about the difficulties of marketing: You can't do it right for everyone, but it is very easy to bork it in general.

Release dates are typically carved in stone and can not be moved easily. What do you think how many people are involved in this? This is not just Feral.

I enjoy Feral's streams and just like to watch them. It's cool to have a stream just one day before the release. This has become a nice tradition between Feral an the community.

Of course they could do without it, but who would benefit? The game would not appear a second earlier without the stream.
And here you can see the difficulties of marketing. I don't enjoy that at all, to me it looks more like "Look, we have this totally playable game here and show you us playing with it! How sad that we can't give it to you right now, you will only get it later, poor boy!".
It looks almost like they want to insult their customers.

'The Dweller' is a short and minimalistic but incredibly fun and solid puzzler that I highly recommend

Thanks for the recommendation. Bought this one now and had more "Oh boy, you are stupid" moments in the first 13 levels (haven't played more, so far, but definitely will) than in all the games I played in the last year combined. At least it feels so.

Fantastic game!

Quoting: TobiSGDSo, if anyone from Feral reads this: does this need the same stupid SSSE3 support that Deus Ex needs?
Nope, DiRT Rally won't require SSSE3. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided needed SSE4.1, by the way.
Sorry, I understood the post in the Steam forums incorrectly. So, does that mean that it will work on Phenom II CPUs?
No probs. Phenom II CPUs won't be supported. So you can give it a go, but at your own risk!
As long as their is no need for an instruction set that is not supported by the Phenoms it shouldn't be a problem, since at least most of the Phenom II X6 are faster than the FX6300.

Thanks for the clarification!

Quoting: Frank DrebinPardon my noobish question but I have Ubuntu 16.04 and the game requires 16.10. Is there a chance I could run the game on 16.04? I don't feel like upgrading my perfectly working OS because of one game...
Don't you just need to run a system update, e.g.:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

You can check the current version with:

cat /etc/debian_version

From my perspective, 16.04 is the release version. And 16.xx is what you get after running updates.

e.g. On my PC at work, Debian 8.0 is what I originally installed, and now it is up to Debian 8.7
This is what it is like on Debian, but not on Ubuntu. 16.04 is an LTS version with 5 years support, 16.10 is an interim version with only 9 months support. Both are different releases.
