Play as a huge corporation in the just announced Stellaris: MegaCorp expansion

Quoting: antisolI'd be very interested to hear opinions justifying how Stellaris represents value for money.
You can also search previous Stellaris articles, here at GoL, where this same question always comes up. What I basically said last time is that I've spent probably around $40 on Stellaris + the few DLC's I have and I have 100 hours into the game. That's worth it to me. Am I willing to shell out some more cash to makes things interesting and play another 20 hours or so? Yeah, I am.

You can also just ignore the DLC if its existence offends you. Buy the base game on sale, play it as much as you like, then leave it. You will get plenty of gameplay from vanilla Stellaris.

As far as this full expansion is concerned, I will probably get it! It sounds great to me. I am curious how it lines up with their really big patch they announced not too long ago. That hasn't been released yet, right?

It has a very strict license for commercial usage.
They're not stopping people using it in their own games. Reading their license and the entire point of the sample, they're letting developers use it.
Remember the Paragon assets that were released, I think last year? Hey, if someone can build something really fun by combining the two, I'd play it.

BATTLETECH for Linux to leave beta on November 27th, along with the Flashpoint expansion

Quoting: GuestA season pass that costs more than the base game. Something really doesn't seem right there. To me, this says they carved up the original game to begin with, and didn't even deliver original kickstarter promises before trying to squeeze people for more funds.
Just in case I needed yet more reasons to not buy this game.
If Twitch streams and written reviews make it sound like the game is worth $40, then that's all I care about I guess. If reviews tend to say that you need the DLC to be worth playing, then I'm on your side. That's at least how I go about it.

How do you guys like For the King? Would it be fun for two players, or only one?

I have yet to buy a season pass for any game. I guess I don't see that as a stopping point.

I'm going to be sexist and say that those are some girly-lookin' sidearm throws. It doesn't look like they're trying very hard due to that, kinda just lobbing it out there.

Holy Potatoes! A Spy Story?! from Daylight Studios to release for Linux on November 7th

Quoting: GuestI'm still buthurt with this dev over the 'Red Shell' thing, sure they removed it in the end but insisted on leaving room to do such things down the road again.
I had never heard of such a thing, so had to look it up [External Link]. Seems sketchy. In the end, the customer is always right.

I like the theme of this game.

Quoting: 14Linux to Linux works. I wouldn't say that's broken.
There are a lot of games where this isn't a problem, because the devs took care of it while developing the game. It was just ignored in this case, and now they realized they can't easily fix that - so they decided they don't.

Quoting: 14Sure, if your friends wouldn't ever consider doing you a favor and booting to a system they didn't prefer, then don't waste your money. My idea could work in other circles.
Most Linux gamers also have their old Windows partition. I would just boot into that. Sounds way faster than multiple other people installing Linux for just one game.

It would be awesome if they want to try out Linux, but guilt tripping them into doing that doesn't sound like a good first time experience to me.
If your friends are Linux admins by day, then guilt tripping is OK.

Quoting: 14The downside to kid games is Steam. It's annoying for my kids and myself when Steam decides to forget your password and then they can't log in until I am available. If I can get over that, I might pick this game up someday. For now, my kids are occupied enough with the couple games they have. I don't need to introduce them to the idea of video game backlogs at this stage. I wish my game collection didn't cause me decision paralysis.
You can create them their own account(s?) and use family sharing or buy the game for their account.
I think what you're saying is to give them the password to the Steam accounts that they already have. That could be a solution, but my kids are not old enough to deal with a Steam account in my mind. It won't be a problem someday. You could say that I'm choosing it to be a problem for now. But I also have the GoG alternative. I install the game. It's playable. I remove the game. It's not playable because they don't know how to install anything yet.
