SCUM, a very exciting sounding open-world survival game should come to Linux
29 Aug 2018 at 10:14 pm UTC

Quoting: CaenthAnother survival game in Early Access. Can't even recall the amount of them anymore and still waiting for a decent one to be actually released. Hard pass.
FWIW, Don't Starve, Starbound, ARK, and Rust are fully released. SCUM, in fact, releases today. I do, however, agree that the Early Access trend for build+survive games is tiring. I don't think it's going to go away. It will only shift to whatever is the most popular genre of game to create. Early Access, while maybe annoying, is pretty attractive to publishers that want to get paid during development. As long as people pay, it won't go away.

As far as SCUM goes, I think the trailer looked quite fun. I'll surely pick it up if the reviews are good after it runs on Linux.

Valve have rolled out Steam Play into the stable Linux Steam Client, along with touch controls for Steam Link

Well, this is nice because I am not usually inclined to install a beta version in order to get features early.

The Linux Civilization VI patch with cross-platform multiplayer hit a bug, going back to approvals this week

Quoting: Xicronic- and it's not like Valve is going to expand the whitelist to 1,000 games tomorrow.

It's just so... wrong. PC describes the hardware, not the software.
EXACTLY. PC means Personal Computer, not WINDOWS computer. The term applies to any general computing device regardless of OS. Linux, Apple, Windows, etc all fall under the umbrella term PC.
The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world that PC was a synonym for Windows.
Even Apple promoted the term "PC" to mean "Windows computer" in old advertising.

A Gummy's Life is another brilliant local and online multiplayer game for Linux

Yeah, I might pick this up when it's finished to try it with my kids.

Action RPG Last Epoch delivers the Alpha build, currently broken for me on Ubuntu (updated)

Quoting: UnshraWhen I was on Windows, I backed Path of Exiles (still have yet to claim my custom weapon design for backing.) Now that I'm focused on native Linux gaming you can be sure I'll be backing Last Epoch. The look already reminds me of PoE I hope they can deliver at least half of what PoE does while still supporting Linux.
Are you playing EVE Online on Linux? I'm just wondering how native you mean. :)

Looks like the fighting game Fantasy Strike may be heading to Linux

I can't wait to doll myself up in a wedding dress and then beat the crap out of people.

Jokes aside, I haven't really played fighting games since I was a kid. OK, I guess there was one for PS Vita that I bought but didn't like that much. I'd be up for trying this one out if it came to Linux. I think I'd need to play against friends for me to have fun. I don't picture myself getting good enough to have fun playing against randoms.

Dota 2 has a new hero called Grimstroke available now, another called Mars coming later
27 Aug 2018 at 4:05 pm UTC

Quoting: liamdaweOne thing to bring up, is that I did see some posts across Twitter about Dota 2 "not needed yet another male hero" or something to that effect. Curious about it, due to my own ignorance on the matter since I've not been playing Dota 2 regularly for some time I decided to look into it. Regardless of your feelings on all things being equal in gaming, Dota 2's hero list is predominantly male. There's over 90 male heroes and only around 16 or so female heroes. That's a pretty large difference, just something to think about…
Something to think about, sure. Just make sure not to jump to simple solutions. Look at LoL heroes. Look at their female heroes. Does that look like a solution? No. LoL female heroes are more sexist than Dota 2's hero base.

Is it worth asking for more female characters in Dota 2? Sure. I don't see how asking for that makes someone feminist. FWIW, one of last year's two new characters was a female. Perhaps Mars will be female as well.

Despite promising an Early Access release, Crazy Justice is out only for backers for now and it's rougher than expected

Quoting: mao_dze_dunSorry, but you could have straight taken the bills and lit them on fire. This game was DOA the moment it was announces. PUBG can't keep up with Fortnite, but Crazy Juice (which looks like a straight rip-off) will? Please...
You don't have to be the #1 most popular in a category to be successful. Fortnite might be the one to beat, but my friends and I don't even like that one. Consider that League of Legends would be considered more popular than Dota 2, yet Dota 2 is still a very successful game that many players love.

Aside from that, I guess I'm not so eager for Crazy Justice to release now. It goes without saying that a game has to work.
Except that this game is not DotA 2 and it's developers are not Valve. This is just another derivative game born out of a trend and it's going the way of all the unsuccessful MOBAs, MMOs and zombie/survival games. Oh, and BR games, which are dropping like flies at this point. But hey - everybody decides for themselves. Hope you get your money's worth out of it.
I never said that I spent any money on it. I haven't yet.
