That has been on my wish list for a while already. I'm interested because I (mostly) like XCOM combat but am not a fan of the base management aspects.

Embracer's troubles continue as they may sell off Borderlands dev Gearbox

Borderlands? It would be fitting for Lionhead Studios to come from the grave and take it over.

Unity attempt to clarify new install fees as developers revolt

I don't need to explain why that's ridiculous do I? Why should a game developer pay their game engine multiple times just because a user who purchased their game installed it in more than one place. Absolute idiocy.
You shouldn't have to, but look at Windows. They allow a finite number of installations, then you have to pay for a new license.

I also found it curious that they said the fees will be charged to the distributor. Does that mean Valve is responsible for tracking?

Kubuntu? I must have missed when you switched off Fedora. That one didn't last too long.

More teasers appear for upcoming Valve hardware

All hardware Valve makes are not totally new inventions, rather variations of devices other companies have made before. With that in mind, I bet people will think, Ah, one of those.

There's a lot between AI and humans, though. Like, algorithms.
Sure. What's your point though?
The point is we don't have to assume the real-time reaction to reporting must be AI empowered.
We've always called computer controlled characters AI, but are they really according to your definition? So, a series of algorithms likely working with a large language model (user's problem description) and analyzing game event logs (match recordings) is close enough. I don't think it's any fun to have a terminology argument. "AI" is going to be overused, and that's nothing new. I've read an old Toyota vehicle manual say that cruise control was AI.

Quoting: SonarDoes the game now offer the option to surrender? When I started with DOTA 2, it was really annoying playing against clearly superior teams who just did not finish the game because killing newbies again and again seems to be so much fun.
I can only guess that you can surrender the Ancient. I see it done in tournaments anyway.

KDE Plasma 6 gets double-click to open by default and other improvements
3 Sep 2023 at 2:21 pm UTC

I like most of the changes highlighted. I have to wonder if people want to turn their screen brightness all the way to black intentionally though. Playing audio or letting a download finish. Can't please everyone I guess.

I also prefer double-click to open files and programs, but I didn't care too bad what the default was. One or more of my kids like it at single-click. What do I care? For me, I like to click on a file and then use Ctrl+C to copy. Can't do that with single-click opens. I don't like right-clicking and then selecting copy. Ew.

Dev of Shadow Tactics, Desperados III, Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew shutting down

This really sucks for me as a fan. And I do like cowboy theme, dangit. I don't have Shadow Gambit yet, but it's been on my wish list since before release. I think Desperados III is really fun and am not quite done with it. (I was playing it again while waiting for BG3 to come out.) The graphics and voice acting help. It's a bummer there won't be more from this studio.

I can't help but speculate that it's the leadership that don't want to do this work anymore and also aren't willing to let others take over. Why do I think that? Because people management and work-life balance can be corrected. You think all the developers are quitting the industry? Highly unlikely. They're going to seek jobs / contracts at other studios, where they're going to risk the exact same work pressure and schedules. This is why my guess as an outsider looking in is owners and managers are quitting but not willing to hand over the rights for someone else to do product and people management better.

I also have to wonder when publishers of long development cycle or large studio games are going to raise video game prices. They're still $60 on average for big releases. It's been that price for, what, 20 years now? Everything else has gone up in price. Blu-rays are expensive. Even restaurants are suggesting tip rates of 20%, 25%, and 30%! In addition to the higher food prices! But the same inflation hasn't really happened to games yet, which puts a time limit on dev wages for projects to get done, and thus lots of crunching and pressure.
