Quoting: scaineI finished it twice and agree that there is some enjoyment in how differently the characters play. But I didn't feel like doing a third run, and I can't away from the fact that my 30 hours of playthrough for £50 just isn't great value, especially when I stack it next to something like Gunfire Reborn, Deep Rock Galactic, or Noita.Wait, your combined playthroughs only amounted to 30 hours? Mine were 30 hours each! Did you have automatic world level-up turned on?

I will say that the classes in Outriders play differently enough to make multiple playthroughs worth it, especially with a buddy or two. I have beaten the game twice now, and I would be up for a third time. Also, why would you scare people away by saying it's 50 GBP on sale? You don't need any DLC. You can get the game for $16 [External Link].
I loved Outriders. There is also a demo, by the way. To me, Outriders felt so good, it was like a brand new Gears of War. I mean the first one that came out and felt like something new and amazing.

AMD Radeon RX 7600 announced for $269 with 8GB VRAM

And yeah, I agree that 8 GB is still fine for 1080p. I can play any of the recently released 3D games with 60-100 FPS and high or max settings.

Quoting: PhlebiacBesides the (always useful) phoronix benchmarks, I also find this helpful in finding good value:That's the main GPU researching tool I use myself. Love it. I go to the High End chart and then scroll down until I see one at the price point I'm willing to spend.

It doesn't have data for the latest models just yet, but you can see that the RX 6650 XT is a great value; I considered one a few months back, but got a good deal on a 3060Ti.

Quoting: MohandevirLet's wait and see the benchmarks, but usually, generation to generation, the RX7600 should be close to the RX6700, performance wise, at a much lower price... And I'm a 1080p gamer (just got a 27in 1080p 144hz monitor, I prefer higher fps to better resolution, personally). This GPU seems like a perfect match for me.Pretty much same boat I was in before I bought the 6600 XT a couple years ago. The difference is the price... I was gouged during the GPU shortage. I was really tired of waiting to move on from the RX 580. I'll say the 6600 XT has been a good middle-grade card, but disappointing when I think about how much I paid for it.

But that's one aspect. There are other benefits. I've been playing with Kinoite in a VM for a while. I like to try the experience of installing and using programs, running updates, to get a feel for daily use. My impression so far is that Flatpak for everything adds annoyance to the user experience. It seems there are assumptions made of which people new to dealing with Flatpaks are ignorant. And thus, the out-of-box or first time runs of applications have been erroneous and required troubleshooting several times. For example, getting vim to work in the terminal was ridiculous!
Overall, my opinion at this point in time is that these immutable systems will be great for the corporate world who has a team of people that are managing custom builds. I don't think they're worth the time and effort as a daily driver for the home user at this point. But it has me very curious and watchful to see how it progresses.

Upgrades are done over the whole thing, it's supposed to be faster and more stable....Faster? Well, in my anecdotal experience, general usage and OS updates are not faster. You get tricked into feeling that the OS upgrades are faster because it's fewer steps to process before your system requires a reboot, but then the upgrades have to finish during the reboot before your system lets you log in. I never thought speed was the goal of sandboxing. Sandboxing and container-like tech has memory and disk space overhead.

Quoting: slaapliedjeWe used to learn a new game every time because one of my friends has a very large collection that continues to grow. Not too long ago, we switched to sticking to a new game for 2-3 sessions in a row so we get better at it. We've got a good thing going that I can't complain too much about.Quoting: 14Even though I play board games with a couple friends on a routine schedule, they will never play a pen & paper RPG again. We did it long ago with a DM that we didn't enjoy, and they're stuck with that memory and won't ever try it again. So, programs like this would be a hopeless, disappointing waste of time and money for me.Sad. But I could see this happening for sure. Sometimes the RPG experience is just a reason for friends to get together. Boards games work as well, but I think the advantage of RPGs is you don't have to learn new rules every time you get together (unless of course you play the same board games over and over.)

System76 are making a lot of their tools in Rust these days, which I think is pretty cool.
Steam gets game trials with Dead Space being first, plus Valve dumps Google Analytics

I was hoping to see Plausible Analytics mentioned here. It would have been a big boost for them. Sounds like Valve are inventing their own wheel though.

Quoting: TheSHEEEPThere are more examples, too. Think of Golang and Kubernetes. How about Visual Studio Code? When a company does something that meets my wishes, I will partake. It's fair.Quoting: TrainDocI hate to be the bearer of bad news but the Steam Deck UI and the new Steam desktop UI are based on CEF (Chromium Embedded Framework). The same browser basis steam used for web browsing in its previous revisions of Steam. So they've become even more dependent upon google imo.Eh, Chromium is open source (with a very permissive license, too, from having a quick look at the license file). It is no more dependent upon a single dev or company than other projects.
Would Google drop it, the community would more than likely just pick it up.
There is no harm in such projects, same as something like using React.js in projects. Yeah, it's made by Faceb-... uhhhh "Meta", but it stands on its own.
And the dependency would only exist in case it was closed source, which it thankfully is not.

Have you picked up anything during Steam Sports Fest 2023?

Quoting: ElectricPrismI picked up Session (the skateboard game) (but not at this sale) ... and unfortunately hated it.If you try Skate XL and your controller works, I want to know. I wanted to play that game, but two of my controllers did not work, so I sadly returned it. I was really in the mood to play it since it's supposed to be semi-realistic compared to very arcade Tony Hawk games.
It had too strong angsty juvenile vibes and I didn't care for the quality of the modeling or the controls.
I'm open to suggestions for great games, but sports has come across to me as a genre where some content can get away half assing things as there isn't fierce competition.
