Minecraft Java will move to Microsoft accounts in 2021, gets new social screen
24 Oct 2020 at 6:44 am UTC

Since I manage multiple Mojang accounts for the kiddos, my real concern is how often will I have to re-enter the password in the launcher. Also, now this account that was limited to Minecraft can be used for a lot of things that I'd rather not deal with yet.

bpytop might be the freaking-coolest way to monitor your Linux system

I started using bashtop about a year ago or a little less. Hmm... should I switch now or wait 'til Arch promotes it to the Community repo?

Our quick-picks of the best Linux games of 2020 so far

Quoting: drjomsIts because 2D compared to 3D is bad looking from start
Suuure. Glorious 3D is always looking good.
Your reply is illogical. He said, between his two posts, that 2D games are mostly about gameplay DESPITE the looks. He did not say that 3D games age well. Why is aging brought up anyway? It wasn't my point anyway. I personally don't play games that are 20 years old. Others can feel free to enjoy those of course. I hope they do. Suit yourselves. But I don't have a preference for playing games that look like they're 10-20 years old, 2D or 3D. My issue is new 2D games look pretty similar to old games. I'm not arguing to convince other people to feel the same way I do. I don't think others should either. We're not debating human morality. It's a matter of preference.

Cyberpunk 2077 confirmed for Stadia on November 19

I'm happy that it's coming to Stadia for the folks that want to purchase it there and play it that way. Had I not had a PS4, I would be sweating, on the fence about buying the Stadia version (as a first) or waiting for Steam release to see if Proton works well enough not to return it. Since I do have a PS4, I decided to avoid the drama and pre-order a disc copy from a local store. If the game becomes playable and smooth on Linux in the future, I can certainly buy that version as well. One thing about having a PS4 disc version is I can actually sell it.

Crusader Kings III is quite a joy to learn, even if you're not particularly smart

After what you guys have been saying about CKII, I don't know if it's even worth trying even though it's free! 10 hours and still don't know what you're doing? 50 hours to feel acquainted? Whoa. I guess that would fit in my life if I stopped playing other games. But there are some RPG's that I don't want to miss out on. Perhaps CKIII could suck me in without such a massive commitment before you feel like your decisions have some confidence behind them.

SteamOS-like Linux distribution GamerOS has a new release, adds in Epic Game Store support

Quoting: FredrikGamerOS still has a game breaking bug for me since forever, when I press mouse button then release it, the mouse pointer warps to a random position. Really anoying.
Do you have a Roccat mouse? I do and I had a problem sort of like that one when it was new long ago. Thankfully, my problem was fixable by calibrating the distance sensor (TCU/DCU?).

Prison Architect turns 5 and gets two classic editions available to download

I bought this game long ago because I thought it would be fun to watch my wife play it. She never has and neither have I. Perhaps I shall someday. :P

Steam has a Digital Tabletop Festival starting October 21

Quoting: LungDragoI might as well ask - is there someone here that's in Gloomhaven's Early Access and could talk about the state of things? It's in my wishlist but I haven't been able to keep up at all and have no idea how good or bad the adaptation actually is.
I have the same interest as you. I can tell you that someone I used to work with is on my Steam friends list and they appear to have been in the game quite a lot lately. I haven't asked what they think yet but eventually will since I'm curious as a player of the physical board game.

I am fortunate that one of my friends bought the board game and has all the table space required for the physical game. I like board games a lot, but I have a hard time picturing myself spending $100+ on a single game. My interest in the computer version is 1) eliminate arduous setup time and space and 2) cost. My wife likes playing board games, but, with kids, we just can't commit to an epic game. Maybe she would play the computer version with me... however, she usually says, "it's not the same."

There is also a more normal size version of Gloomhaven now called Jaws of the Lion that is half the cost and a lot less setup. I might get that one.

Unity Technologies announce 'Open Projects', building games in Unity that are open source
2 Oct 2020 at 2:54 pm UTC Likes: 2

This is great news! I love it.

If someone asked if you wanted a dish of ice cream, would you cross your arms and refuse because they didn't give you the whole carton? Let's get real here. This is a positive move whether the game engine is open source or not. Are you next going to say that a game isn't open source if it only runs on Windows or Mac OS? Next step is open hardware. What's next after that, cooperative, non-profit utilities in your home?

It's very easy to be cynical. It is a LOT harder to do good work, be positive, and get others working alongside you. Cheers to the folks who can.

Amazon announces 'Luna', their own take on cloud game streaming

Quoting: kuhpunktKinda worried about the future honestly... so much fragmentation, everybody wants its own thing.
Eh, that's temporary. There will be 2-3 real players in the end and the others will fail or get purchased by the bigger guys.

I wonder which cloud provider Nvidia uses. The other three game streaming services also own their own "cloud." I wonder if Nvidia is using their own data centers or if they're utilizing one of the other guys'.

On to my opinion of this new service: No thanks. I'll pass. Amazon is already too big and it's starting to get sickening.
