Black Mesa developer shoots down anti-Linux troll, confirms Linux version is in progress

These anti-Linux and pro Windows trolls make no sense. They are defending a closed OS made by a mega corporation and that corporation doesn't care about you. What did Ubuntu or Debian or Arch do to offend this person so much? Shouldn't having your game on more platforms be the end goal?

The GNU/Linux distros offer software freedom and choice. You can use whatever desktop you want in addition to the distro. Heck, you can go 100% free software with something like Trisquel [External Link] if you choose. Having more control over your computing is a good thing!

This does not include Android, even though it is Linux,
Android is not Linux. Linux programs don't work on Android and Android apps don't work on Linux.
Android uses a heavily modified version of the Linux kernel. That's it.
Linux is a Kernel, if it uses it, it is Linux. It's everything on top that makes it a desktop/mobile/server/whatever distribution.

Let's not split hairs over something silly eh.
Its because you are wrong. While Linux is the kernel, the desktops that you use (and SteamOS) are GNU/Linux since it is the GNU utilities in combination with the Linux kernel to make it all work. While Android may use a Linux kernel, Google uses their own software and it has no relation to the the "Linux" you talk about on this page which are the Arch, Debian, SteamOS, and Ubuntu distributions.

For the user who made the Doom 3 comments, there is always rbdoom3bfg available in he Ubuntu 16.04 repos or playdeb.net. There were talks about Vulkan for this project, but it's been on hold: https://github.com/RobertBeckebans/RBDOOM-3-BFG/issues/317 [External Link]

Hopefully when this hits GNU/Linux, Vulkan support in Unity3D is there as an option. GOL did a news post on it after all. :-)

I use Unity for my every day stuff, but I like to boot into the SteamOS login [External Link] directly from the login screen when I feel like just playing games and bypassing all the stuff that loads in the background with Unity.

If Valve is shifting focus away from SteamOS (in favor of VR), what makes you think developers and publishers are going to spend the extra effort if Valve is losing interest?

A third of Valve now working on VR, still no Linux support

It's a shame Valve won't at least try to get VR support via the Vive into SteamOS. Windows was already a much better platform for games and this unfortunately makes it even more appealing.
