I'm currently playing through Shadow Warrior on GNU/Linux (which is a fantastic port) and they make references to Hard Reset throughout. It was my first time hearing about the game, so that is good advertising on their end. :-)

Steam Machines are dead in the water according to Ars, not quite

I do think that Valve needs to aid developers and publishers in porting their games to the GNU/Linux ecosystem. And if they do, it has to be in a timely manner and not like what we have with Rocket League. Promised to have a game and it ready to go and then we don't hear about it until 6+ months later when the buzz has died off.
They should also highlight titles that you can only get on the PC and how you can play the same titles as what is on the PS4 and Xbox One.
Oh and having a handful of units out there made by different developers has confused the consumer. Why can't we have just one machine built by Valve that developers can target?

Rocket League is still coming to Linux, but there is no release date

By posting monthly usage stats based off of a rare survey and not actual collected data, developers are becoming less inclined to spend the resources to port to a platform with declining usage per month. Valve is not spending enough of their resources to help developers port to Linux. They are more concerned about VR with Vive, which is Windows only.
Since SteamOS is a side project for Valve that is bleeding money, how long until they give up on SteamOS and supporting Linux in general? More devs will leave Linux and Vulkan will be used mainly for Android. Ugh.

Vulkan support for Dota 2 to come next week

Quoting: KristianYeah, I absolutely, wholeheartedly support Vulkan. I just wish Apple, Sony and Nintendo would all add Vulkan support to their platforms, which would mean that all major platforms except the Xbox One would have Vulkan support.Rumor is that Nintendo's new console will support Vulkan. Xbox consoles will put DirectX as the priority, but it would be nice if Sony adds Vulkan to the PS4 considering it has a non-Windows operating system.
Edit:
On another note I am surprised no anti-trust authorities have done anything about DirectX. If MS had to open up DirectX, things could be quite different.

What does Apple lose from supporting Vulkan? Are they worried that people will use that instead of Metal when porting games over? If Microsoft blocked OpenGL and Vulkan at the OS level to force DirectX, they would get a lot of negative press and lawyers potentially involved.
Of course when Apple does this, they get a pass. Screw them.

Quoting: StebsThis is why I don't support Apple on the desktop. They love to use permissively licensed software as the base of their operating systems, but rarely give back. They do for CUPS and LLVM, but keep a lot of the improvements to themselves.Quoting: bubexelSame as they don't support opengl. What i can't understand is why nvidia, intel and amd don't add vulkan on their drivers for mac?Apple doesn't allow it.
On OS X, Apple controls the drivers, those are written only "with the help of" Nvidia, Intel etc., and not simply by Nvidia, Intel...
Specifics about this seem to be secret.
That is probably also why OS X is still at OpenGL 4.1 (4.0 actually).
And Metal doesn't even support features like Geometry shaders or Tesselation shaders, it's designed for mobile usage...

Sickhead Games working with Chucklefish to port Stardew Valley to Linux

Quoting: Crazy PenguinI don't know if you are trolling or not, but Ethan's FNA is no slouch. Most of us here wish Ethan did the Stardew Valley port (since he is more talented than the majority of porters out there), but now we have to settle for a sloppy port. Great....Quoting: crazyg4merz*facepalm* Sometimes Guys...Quoting: kellerkindtIt will be a shame if it turns out to be a bad port or they just give up the project entirely and blame Linux for being a pain in the ass. I really need this game to work, a fan of Harvest Moon for a long time. :(Quoting: FredOI didn't know these guys do Linux & MAC ports - it looks like they have Sony console ports on their list?Following the discussion here https://twitter.com/flibitijibibo/status/730794103999434752 [External Link] you seem to be right about this one being their first port... oh dear
IMHO ConcernedApe has made a good choice. ChuckleFish is his publisher, which has experience with Linux! Also has Tom Coxon, which is a Linux gamer btw., Linux experience with his own game Lenna's Inception and Starbound. True, Sickhead Games seems not to have much experience with Linux, but they have with MonoGame. Not to mention that they also involved in the development of the MonoGame Framework which they used for their ports for PS4 and it is available on Linux too.
That way Stardew Valley will not only be ported to Mac & Linux. It also replaces the outdated XNA with MonoGame, which is much more then Ethan has to offer.
So overall I'm not surprise about that decision and I see a good team here which can and will do it. I only hope it doesn't take to long. I hate to boot windows! :(
Just in case that you don't know who Tom Coxon is, and looks very like it:

The last time I got a survey was over 6 months ago and I play on GNU/Linux almost daily. By Valve doing these silly surveys instead of using login and game data, they are hurting the perception of their SteamOS as well. Don't they care at all? Or will we assume that Valve will simply give up if this situation doesn't get better?

Saints Row 2 Linux port report, not good

Btw, does anyone here use the newer Xbox One controller? The "Covert Forces" or "2015 Firmware" one with the better triggers and headphone jack. I can't get this game to recognize it in Ubuntu 16.04 and I don't know if its an SDL2 setting or not.
I'm also using the SteamOS xpad DKMS module from https://launchpad.net/~mdeslaur/+archive/ubuntu/steamos [External Link] which supports this controller and newer ones like the Xbox Elite.
EDIT: Adding this to /steamapps/common/Saints Row 2/saintsrow2 on the next line under #!/bin/sh seemed to do the trick:
