Tim Sweeney has a point about Fortnite EAC support

To be honest, I'm sick of Epic in general. I hate that they don't support Linux and are trying to gain marketshare by throwing money at developers with these timed exclusives. Also not too happy that Tencent has a 40% stake in the company. Is all of our data going to China? Ugh.

This narcissistic attitude towards non Windows platforms by Sweeney makes me not want to support that company if I don't have to. Seeing as I never paid money for a game on Epic Games Store, I could care less.

It would be awesome if the Linux versions on GOG match the same releases as on Steam. :-)

Quoting: t3gI’m glad Stadia failed so you can stop posting articles about it. Yes, it was based on Linux, but developers didn’t use that code for native ports on GOG and Steam. I thought of it like Android where it was a closed Linux ecosystem.
A) you want a service to fail, a service that others use, because you....don't want to read news about it?
B) you also want a service to fail because developers aren't releasing native desktop GNU/Linux versions? Despite no company ever claiming it would lead to that (Google never, not once, claimed this, and no developer to my knowledge ever claimed this either).

It's not like Steam is an open platform. It's quite closed. So are the majority of the games you're likely to be playing. Just want to point that out.
I did want Stadia to fail because they piggybacked on Linux and their "enhancements" never made it upstream. When the Steam Deck comes out with SteamOS 3.0, Valve's enhancements are going to be upstreamed. Plus, it was doomed to fail since they made you pay for each game on top of paying for the steaming service. If they just charged a monthly fee, then it would have been better. Especially for a service where you never really owned your games that you paid money for. This is true of digital content, but at least you can install to the hard drive with GOG and Steam.

I have my issues with GOG not providing Galaxy or a native Linux build of certain games, but you can always use Lutris to get the Windows games running and many times, it will run better with Lutris' Wine, Wine-GE, or standard Proton. Oh and I can download the .exe or .sh file on backups. I love that GOG is DRM free and why I have 400+ games in my library.

Dota 2 on Linux gets upgraded to use the newer Steam runtime container

Dota 2 client. This included dropping OpenGL support
While I am all for prioritizing support for new technologies (Vulkan, Wayland, Pipewire, Rust...) won't this decision leave out players who don't have a compatible card?

I don't play this game and I don't know if the game is already heavy enough to not run on older setups, but while their main competitor (league of legends) does the opposite (can run on weak computers and have non-english with voice localization) in order to embrace a bigger player base, drop OpenGL will exclude Linux players with non Vulkan hardware (which may not be many, but they probably exist)
Not sure if you are trolling or not, a Nvidia GTX 970 that I had back in 2014 supports Vulkan.

I'd love for System76 to build a modular laptop like how Framework does it.

Steam ended 2021 with a slightly lower Linux user share ending the recent growth

It is known that the Chinese gamers tend to pick Windows and more often than not, stick with an older release due to not caring or pirating it. If money is an issue, they can always get Ubuntu Kylin [External Link] since it is tailored to them and should offer a decent gaming experience out of the box. Of course multiplayer games with anti cheat DRM are probably holding many back.

Trouble in Solus Linux land as their Experience Lead quits
3 Jan 2022 at 5:17 pm UTC Likes: 7

I'm old enough to remember when Ikey created and maintained the Solus team and then just avoided everyone. Didn't communicate with team members and committed no code. Pretty much moved (maybe he didn't or was lying) and left the Solus team high and dry. Eventually he went to Intel, but it was a shitty way for him to abandon his project.

Then Josh and others had to go into emergency mode and took over the reigns for the project. Now he is leaving and Solus is in uncertainty. I tried Solus when Ikey was leading the team, but with how strong Arch is now, there is really no reason to pick Solus. Heck, you can install Budgie on any distro you want regardless if it is Arch, Debian, Fedora, or Ubuntu.

Now you see why people choose Arch and Debian as their main distros as they have a history of a strong community not run by a corporation or a handful of people.

For game controllers, I am currently using an Xbox Elite v2 and I was curious if you could add the Elite controllers to the list. :-)

As for VR headsets, I have an HP Reverb G2 (not in the list) but I'm not sure how popular that is either. Maybe you could add a general "Windows Mixed Reality" headset. Sounds kinda weird running on a Linux OS though heh.
