Quoting: ShabbyXI love my deck, don't get me wrong, it's awesome for travel, and gets me to sleep earlier since I can play in bed until I drop asleep, but the fact that the screen and controls are in the same place (true for every handheld) is tiring for the body.

Ideally, you want to look straight into a screen, while holding the controls low so your arms are in rest position. With handhelds, you either have to hold the heavy thing up for your neck to have a better time, or bend your neck down for hours for your arms to not get tired.

I'm back on spending more time on my deck these days, but I don't think I can sustain that.
Yeah, sometimes when playing with deck in bed I used to hold the deck directly above my head, my arms would tire which once led to dropping my deck directly on my face (it was fine, no damage done to the deck)

Suffice to say, I don't play it like that anymore.

It's strange to see the Deck's case without the pull tab to lift the deck out with.

Quoting: BlackBloodRumThe cube!

I hope it will also have wobbly windows and things, haha. I miss that old stuff!
Wobbly windows weren't dropped from Plasma 5, so they were there all along. Some effects like desktop cube were removed and are returning only now (they needed to switch to different design with QML and etc.).
Are you serious? I thought they were long gone along with compiz, I never thought to check because of that.

I'm going to have to check now!
Just wanted to reactivate it myself and found I had already done that and just ignored it the whole time. The wobbling is quite subtile here and I use keyboard commands quite a lot.

Not sure about the Desktop cube. It always felt displaced on multi-monitor systems...
Yeah I found it too :D

In regards to multi-monitors, if you get 6 monitors, you can build some kind of cube-like monitor holder rack so it holds them in the shape of a cube and then bolt the monitors to it, add it to some kind of axis and then physically move/rotate them in a cube like manner! :D

(I am of course joking!)

Quoting: BlackBloodRumThe question becomes, will they continue to support the now old, obsolete Steam Decks?
The 256GB model is staying as LCD so yes, and the software behind them is largely the same remember (minus the extras for the new OLED ofc).
That is true, but that's technology, it moves on!

The question becomes, will they continue to support the now old, obsolete Steam Decks?

Also, for developers the nice thing about the deck was having a "specific target". E.g, they make it work on that one device, and they're done in terms of Linux support. Changing it so soon may be an issue. Or, "Steam Deck" in-game settings will be optimised for one or the other, not both due to the higher specs. This could mean a game runs well on the new deck, but crap on the old one with the preset.

Or better yet, is it finally time to stick Gentoo on this thing? :woot:

In any case, it all helps Linux gaming in the long run, which is the important thing[1]!

[1] I admit my deck mostly sits in its case while I'm gaming on my desktop these days.

Quoting: ArehandoroCan the original Steam be upgraded with this new OLED?
My suspicion on this is no, just because the OLED is slightly larger, so presumably something about the chassis had to be adjusted for the bigger screen to fit.
I wonder how that works, actually. Is the whole thing just 0.4" bigger overall, or was there space around the edge of the existing screen that could be moved into so the device is the same size just with a bigger hole for the screen, or somewhere in between? Did they need to shift the controls any?
The screen had a large border:

My guess is they just used some of that space.

HOT WHEELS UNLEASHED 2 - Turbocharged is good fun with some issues on Steam Deck / Linux

In my defence, I read it as settings such as general save data, difficulty and such. The stuff you do want synced.

I figure now you mean settings such as graphic options and such. I'll just facepalm my self over here and it in a corner  *facepalm*

This looks fun!

Another one noticed today, is that it will sync your game settings via Steam Cloud so that can be a nuisance swapping between PC and Steam Deck. Please developers, just stop doing that.
If people don't want their saves synced, they can always disable steam cloud save sync. Generally, I prefer to sync my saves across devices though. :-)
