I was just about to come in complaining about the price increases considering the cost of living lately.. but then I read this:
Argentine Peso + ... +485%Yikes. OK - Maybe 8% isn't so bad. I can live with that.

EA begins swapping out Origin for EA app on Steam

But with that said, this is something I run into a lot since I usually mod my games, swap them with the GOG version or unofficially remove the DRM. So here's a little tip to avoiding that exact problem!
If you have a game you don't want to update (say, because you know the developer usually pushes breaking changes) right click the game in your library and hit properties.
Go into updates and switch automatic updates to "Only update this game when I launch it".
From here there's two things you can do if your game has been updated, but you don't want to:
a) Switch steam to offline mode via "Steam > Go Offline" in the top menu, and launch your game. It won't update in this case, and will not update when you go back online
b) Before allowing the update, copy the games local files to an alternate directory, allow the game to update, copy the files back after the update is complete, in some cases this works just fine and steam will think the game is up to date.
Have fun!

Quoting: GroganThe worst of it is, with Steam, you have no choice when they push updates. I've rebought a lot of games on GoG because of that.Personally, I think it's cool you're buying on GOG too, because "Boo! DRM".

Someone released the FOSS RTS 0 A.D. on Steam without speaking to the developers

Their model is a support model, aka you pay them for support. Their source code is freely available - anyone can download it, subscription or not. In addition, even RHEL itself you can download from them for free and run it, for free, with updates included.
In addition they also do a lot for the Linux community (more than Valve even) including countless contributions to the Linux kernel and other parts of Linux (Fedora, NetworkManager, Systemd, PulseAudio, Flatpak etc etc).
All of the changes they make are submitted directly to upstream (or in some cases an entirely new application). So to say they're simply doing nothing but making money from FOSS is unfair to say the least.

Quoting: ElectricPrismRedHat charges yearly licenses and the Linux Kernel doesn't flip out on them for it.In the case of Redhat, it's not just charging for a license.

Too many Linux users just assume that because they're on Linux they can't be hacked or get a virus. That's simply a fallacy, if you download a dodgy application on Linux, it can take control of your Linux box just like it could with a windows box.
Remember, the weakest security link is always the user.
Don't believe me? Look up ransomware for Linux. Also, don't forget technically speaking the strongest forms of DRM are technically spyware and rootkits and Steam allow those.
So don't assume everything is clean just because you're on Linux.

I imagine it doesn't have anything nefarious inside it, otherwise you really would have to wonder what Valve are doing…Never assume an application is clean, even if you're on Linux. Like seriously.

Chill guys.
Think of it this way, Linux gaming is in a much better position now than it ever was before. On this front, we should all be happy.

Quoting: PenglingI don't have a Steam Deck (yet - but with my love of portables it's inevitable ), but it's great to see good emulation solutions popping up for it; Emulation has been the backbone of my gaming on PCs ever since Sony got it into the news and put the spotlight on it back in the late 1990s, so I'll definitely be looking into this once I actually have a Deck.Keep telling you, you gotta get a steam deck
Quoting: Purple Library GuySo if this thing is for Emus, does it have a point-and-peck interface?Let's hope so!:grin:

Loved how simple it was to update though! - I actually connected it first while in desktop mode (silly me?!) and then it wasn't until I rebooted to game mode that it mentioned the updates.
No windows BS like you'd get with the other docks, just a straight up "Your dock needs a firmware update, wanna update it now mate? sure/nah"
Click sure, and off it went.
Easy as Pi!

I'm a sucker for tomb raider style games (like this) so I had already pre-ordered this when it was on discount. Good to know it'll work day 1 on Linux, though I figured it would :-D
Sony/Microsoft seem to have their sights set on Steam Deck (Linux) compatibility right now, which I never thought I would say.
