The GOG version works fine here on Kubuntu 17.10 without any fussing (but I already had all manner of 32-bit libraries installed)... except as noted in the article it doesn't seem to remember the fullscreen setting (F11 key works)

I've seen most of the map, and the dream gate skill makes the bench-scarcity a non-issue -- but after 70+* hours in the game I feel stuck. I've enjoyed the exploration, the many little secrets and bits of history strewn about, the characters, the atmosphere... the boss fights not so much.

(*I thought it was 90+, but now it shows 70+)

More games should have throwable potions, edible rings, wieldable boots, or scrolls that can be set on fire to briefly provide light. Basically, the player should be able to at least attempt to use anything as anything. That's always been the best part of Nethack...
