I would really like to have this game on Linux. It looks fantastic (the surreal graphic style is awesome) and the gameplay seems to be very cool according to most testers. Hook me up when they release a Tux version.

So this is the secret title the Hammerwatch guys were working on before making Hammerwatch 2. Guess as a serious Sam fan, I will definitely buy this one. The game looks freaking cool, especially Survival Mode :D
Canonical drop the Unity desktop environment for Ubuntu favour of going back to GNOME

Because there is one thing that Unity 7 did absolutly right compared to ALL other Linux DE's out there, in times where 16:9 widescreens are the norm, vertical screen space is very precious compared to horizontal screen space. Having a monstrous launcher bar at the bottom is just bad UX design when you can have it at the left side of the screen, preserving precious vertical screen space and using the available but only 80% or so used horizontal screen space. And delivering such a good out of the box experience is what drives Ubuntu.
But it is a good descision by Canonical to let go off Unity 8, and hopefully Mir. Their refocus on the "standard" Linux Desktop Components is good and makes it better for all. For me personally, I will start looking for a new Linux Distro, because without Unity, Ubuntu is not worth it anymore, cause I dislike all their friendship with Microsoft.
Next halt: trying Solus and Antergos and deciding on my future Linux distro.
As for your question Liam, no you don't need a specific website for Linux news. If the news is somehow related to gaming (like this topic definitely is) you can always write about it. At the end of the day, this is your site and you decide the content, if you feel it is newsworthy for us fellow Linux gamers, just write about it. We are free to skip it if we think so. ;)

Quoting: ThePierrasseThis is exactly my experience. My first Linux back in 2003 was a Suse Linux (yeah it was called Suse Linux back in the days) and it just was so Windows-ish with its KDE. After several years on and off Debian, I restarted my Linux endevours as Steam came into Beta. At that point I installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and fell in love with Unity right away. This, in turn, makes Ubuntu go back to what made me originally love it. A polished GNOME desktop experience released every 6 months with the latest and greatest with a little extra love and polish thrown in for good measure. A good, solid desktop experience to introduce people new to Linux with. To me, it sounds fantastic again. It's funny that you say that, since I originally left Ubuntu in 2010 because I got tired of GNOME 2. I regain interest in Ubuntu when Canonical introduced Unity, and tbh it gave me the best desktop experience i've ever had. Hopefully Unity 7 will still be available as an optional UI in 18.04.

Serious Sam Fusion 2017 (beta) for The First Encounter is now available, with Linux support

Did a quick run of the first two levels yesterday (still knowing all the secrets, yay :D ) and it runs friggin smoothly with everything on ultra setting with well over 100fps, OpenGL or Vulkan doesn't matter here. Only thing I have with Vulkan, is some strange micro stuttering, only noticable when moving slowly (which is practicaly never in SS :D), but it is there. So I switched back to OpenGL and everything runs fine.

I already noticed that since I have this game on the wishlist since its announcement. I am not worried by it because Kalypso have delivered pretty good Linux ports already and they don't seem to step down from that. So we sadly just need to wait.
Full Throttle Remastered to release on April 18th, pre-orders exclusive to GOG

GOG already lists the game as Linux game, so it should be a Day-1 release, Grim Fandango and Day of the Tentacle were announced without Linux support and got it later in. But as always I won't preorder, I buy when there IS a Linux version and not before the first discounted sale. I have enough to play until that time ;)
So, I played... Black Mesa

I have bought the game as they released the Linux beta to support the development. Samsai put it completly right, they improved the "bad" things of the original while still keeping its personality. It feels like HL1 through and through. I still encounter a reproducable shader error in the Surface Tension level which keeps me from going on in the game. But I haven't played since the last update, so that maybe fixed in the meantime.
I will start a fresh run in the next weeks. Oh, and we want to see Liam stream this too, for shits and giggles :D

The trailer looks good, the action gameplay is awesome.
As said before in other threads regarding this topic, I await these dlc's eagerly, especially the Motörhead one, as I am a big Motörhead fan. But I don't think I will pick them up on release, I will wait until a sale on Steam. I have enough to play until they are on sale :D
