Quoting: EhvisIt's not just the new style gameplay here, you also get (relatively) modern lighting and fog effects in your pixel graphics. Something that could never be done in the actual pixel graphics days. I find that an interesting combination.I noticed that two, look at how cool the water is animated (like four animation layers for the river), and how cool the lighting looks on the flying bat.

I finally completed Half-Life 2 on Linux and it was quite the experience

Ah Half-Life 2, I bought it a month after it released here in Germany, 12 years ago. That is why I have the Steam badge "12 years of Service" since December 2016. (Yeah I was a windows gamer at that time :D, but who wasn't right? ).
Finished it multiple times, played Episode 1 & 2 multiple times either, amazing game, amazing story, and boy what a cliffhanger at the end (Where is the Borealis?). Can recommend it for anybody who wants a good shooter with good narrative. Although the story of Episode 2 becomes a bit stale with Magnusson as the new herald (where does this guy come from?) but overall it has an amazing story.
I can't wait for Black Mesa to be finished, played the first half of it already, and bugs aside, the team did a great job. They not only made a copy&pasta version of HL1, they reimagined the levels with new layouts, new secrets, new triggers etc. Overall there were pleasent surprises for a HL veteran like me. And for all the Xen haters, the new version will be much better then the original, although I liked Xen back in the days.
Maybe I start a Black Mesa stream the next days, we'll see :D

So much Linux love, so less time sadly :D
But hey, why contemplate, there were times where we didn't have enough games for me to enjoy, these times are over forever now! What a time to be a Linux gamer :D

Croteam say all Serious Sam games are on their way to Linux with Vulkan, also VR on Linux teaser from Valve

I am seriously in Love with Croteam (yes, pun intended :D ). I love the Sam Franchise, I own all titles on Steam, so I am really looking forward to play them again.
Best thing in my books, they won't implement DX12 and remove the old DX9 Backend, and only use Vulkan, even on Windows. If more developers start to adapt this, we will see a whole bunch of new games on Linux too.

Quoting: GuestYea, it's been Unity for me too up until recently. If you haven't been paying attention to Godot lately, I'd suggest taking a look through their recent dev blog posts. They're ramping up to become a serious Unity alternative. They've made incredible progress over the last 3 months. https://godotengine.org/devblog [External Link]Haven't had a look at Godot yet, I just had some free eBooks about Unity and got into it very easy that way. But I will have a look at it now, thanks for the hint.

Exactly my thoughts Beer. I don't like the technique behind that, Unity seems to be my number one choice here. But I can see that there is definitely interest in such tools for non-programmers, aka Designers that have cool game ideas.
So not my cup of tea, but others might have a cool use for it.

Hmm, personally I am not into racing games at all, cause I just suck at them (I played Mario Cart on my Wii last weekend and got defeated by easy AI), but I know a lot of people like racing games, and if this title gets the same Feral-Love than the other ports, I am happy for the Linux gaming community, and that is also worth something!
Happy racing to you all :D

X-COM: UFO Defense is free on Humble Store, can be used in the OpenXcom open source engine

I can only recommend everyone to run this game with the OpenXCOM engine and not the original. Much more options, all bugs which are plaguing the original are patched, the Interface is reworked with lots of awesome options, I could go on here for minutes.
Just much more enjoyable :D
