Intel talks up new hardware at Intel Architecture Day 2021

Quoting: Purple Library GuyThe doubling thing definitely died some time ago now.I don't have specific expectations in terms of performance, but +40% over 6 generations feels quite low to me. It's not even +7% per generation (on average). I don't even know why you'd bring up the doubling - Moore's Law has been long dead. I highly doubt anyone still thinks Intel can "tick-tock" their way down the manufacturing process. :P

Intel say that when compared with the Skylake generation, their new Efficient-core will deliver 40% more performance at the same power in single-threaded applications or the same performance with 40% less power consumption. So they compared Gen12 (Alder Lake) with Gen6 (Skylake). Yikes! :dizzy: Only a 40% improvement over 6 generations! :dizzy:

Oh, boy... I can hardly wait to see people bragging with their Intel 7 Core i5 with 6 cores. ... and then watch the others get confused.
Humble Bundle confirms changes coming mid-July to add a minimum payment for Humble

So a company offers bundled of games, software, music, etc for considerably less money, they allow people to also donate some amount to a charity or favor the developers or publishers, but somehow some people get upset that the company offering the bundles can't "get" zero. It's weird, to say the least.
It's surely nice to want to support charities and developers, but websites don't develop and maintain themselves, servers don't automagically get updated and protected, customers support is not done by AI, electricity doesn't come for free, and there's no free office space or unpaid staff.
EPIC Games Store takes 12%, so not far from the Humble minimum of 15%. And I think Humble gets 15% on bigger payments, and 30% on the lowest ones, in order to get something out of the whole transaction. Hey, it's arguably more than some people feel comfortable, but they offer more options compared to most stores. How often do other game stores allow you to send money to a charity? Humble do it with every bundle - right?

Better have nicely polished features than rushed and buggy ones. Good move, I'm glad they split the update. Proper map generation and performance are very important for a lot of people who don't have powerful PCs.

Nice! :D Also update the link to this article in the previous one.
Now I wonder how that PC would handle RH 9.0 with Blackbox. :) But I can't help wonder how a newer OS would do. Here's my fresh Debian 10.8 32-bit in a VM:
RAM usage in the bottom-right corner. :) Yeah, I "cheated" by removing pulseaudio because it's just a VM meant for a few browser tests not involving audio, but it's around 60MB with it.
- Debian netinst with all the boxes unchecked (so basic textmode install)
- Added: bash-completion, xserver-xorg, xinit (any login manager will use more RAM - slim, lightdm, lxdm, etc), openbox, feh, lxpanel, lxtask, lxterminal, lxappearance, lxrandr, lxsession-edit, lxsession-logout, chromium, zram-tools because I could "afford" it with 1GB RAM. :))
For eye-candy I added the DarkMint theme, the elementary Xfce icon theme, the good old Onyx for window borders, and gnome-wallpapers (just to see what images that would bring in). :)
So it's kind of retro, but it's not. Oh, Minetest needs more RAM. I installed 5.3.0 from buster-backports and it runs fine, but 1GB RAM is not ideal for longer sessions. :P But for Quake and other stuff... it should be awesome. I should actually try a few older games. :)

Quoting: x_wingProbably a better contender for RH9 is WXP, as the memory usage also went quite up compared to W98.Oof, WinXP SP3 will choke even with 256MB RAM. The lowest I managed to take XP in its early days, without butchering it, was about 64MB RAM. But with SP3 there's no point using it without at least 384MB RAM because it needs at least 256MB RAM for itself, so you end up swapping like crazy if you have less, and then gaming on top of it... not a great move.
