What have you been playing on Linux recently and what do you think about it?

I was trying to play Warframe, but it was a pain in the ass to get to work and when I finally got it up and running their was graphical glitches followed by a full system hang :'(.

I'd like to give the new Unreal Tournament a try. But hopefully it doesn't work too well or I might get addicted like I did for about a decade with the original games :-o.

Quoting: GuestDiablo III Reaper of Souls. Runs quite well through latest Wine with CSMT.
Terraria - a few lags here and there, but hosting it and playing with 2 family members. Great game that will entertain you for a long time.
Minecraft - performance dropped significantly with opensource drivers
No More Room In Hell - runs better now with opensource drivers IMO, it is a casual game.
Runes Of Magic - runs decently. Not really playing it anymore cuz of Diablo.

Use gallium-nine with Diablo 3. Don't be surprised if your frame rates double. It's my goto when I play Starcraft 2 and Diablo III. Great games, just wish Blizzard was more Linux friendly.

Rocket League for Linux & SteamOS getting close to a release window finally
4 June 2016 at 11:16 pm UTC

It looks like it might be fun. I've just ordered a Steam controller while they're on sale, and will buy a copy of Rocket League *if* they ever release it. Won't believe it until I see it :-).

I feel like I need to buy a few more Linux games just to show my support, but I'm not the hardcore gamer I was 5+ years ago :(.

Valve announce over half a million Steam Controllers have been sold
2 June 2016 at 10:26 pm UTC

I was going to wait until they came out with a 2nd iteration of the Steam controller with improvements, but the 30% discount is quite nice and pushed it low enough for me to consider buying one right now.

I have an old Logitech Rumblepad that I've been using for Grid Autosport, but some games just refuse to recognise it and they weren't games I felt like playing with a keyboard and mouse. Hmmm, will have to get on this.

Steam Machines are dead in the water according to Ars, not quite

I'm willing to be patient to see the big titles land on SteamOS/Linux. But more work on every area of Linux, not just Steam needs improving if you want to see gamers ditching Windows.

I think Valve are actually doing a lot of work behind the scenes on Linux, they're helping with ports where they can and I'm sure they're trying to incentivize other developers into supporting Linux. Maybe it's because we aren't seeing upfront changes that some are getting impatient.

Serious Sam 4 confirmed to be in development right now

Quoting: rkfgSS3 is totally awesome. I completed it twice, first solo and another time was around NY2015 with a dozen of Steam friends....

I bought SS3 awhile back, but couldn't get the game to run on Linux at an acceptable framerate so I never played more than the first few minutes. This is probably down to poor AMD drivers though. I loved the original games however, so much fun. Hopefully now that they are developing with Vulkan in mind, the performance will be their so I can enjoy some Serious Sam once again :).

The Talos Principle 2 has been announced
21 May 2016 at 10:11 am UTC

I think I played at least 2/3 of the way through. I kept yoyoing between gallium on wine and native opengl as the hitching on initial level load was driving me kookoo. Otherwise a very enjoyable first person puzzle game. Not in the same league or same way as Portal. But looking forward to Talos 2 especially now they have Vulkan support.

Unreal Tournament on Linux, checking up on the progress by Epic Games and how to get it running on Linux
18 May 2016 at 5:50 am UTC

I was a huge UT fan back in the day. Played the hell out of ut99-2004 Lost interest by UT3 though.

The new game looks very Alpha. Face looks really dated even with the attempt to recreate it. I guess I'm just not feeling it.. But maybe that opinion would change if I try it. Also not sure how smooth the game runs on Radeonsi without a shader cache there is a lot of hitching last time I checked.

One of my favourite racing games 'Distance' has a massive update

I bought this game because I wanted to support the developers as they've given good Linux support and it looked like a fun racing game, which we don't have tons of on Linux. Glad to see they're still pumping out updates.

On another note, I wonder if we will ever see a Linux version of Rocket League, thats been promised for like evar :-/.

DiRT Rally also looks like it's coming to SteamOS & Linux

Quoting: RTherenSince the DiRT Showdown was ported by VP, my guess would be VP also here...
Showdown uses an older engine, though. Rally uses the same engine as GRID Autosport. I think there's more of an argument for Feral to port based on engine, rather than franchise name. But maybe this is wishful thinking.

My bet would be on Feral too, they did a very good job with GRID Autosport imho. Whoever ends up porting it, I just hope they do a good job, really wanted to play this game since it came out.

A few more racing titles and SteamOS will start to look more like a proper alternative to consoles.
