Quoting: liamdaweThe decay is a bit quick, if you can find me a config option to change I am happy to extend the decay time a good bit.
I found a couple of things, so let's kick off with the pure "vanilla" server options I found:

  • decay.decaytickrate - This one seems to be for Legacy rust server and no longer in use

  • decay.tick - This is the tick rate like the above one for current version, I think (not tested myself).

  • decay.scale - This seems to be the recommended option to adjust. with 1 being 100% and 0.25 being 25% speed. So maybe setting that to 0.50 to half the speed of decay?
If those doesn't work then it looks like a modded server (Oxide, has linux support) is the only option:
  • http://oxidemod.org/plugins/nodecay.1160/ - Can adjust decay speed

Summary:

Do decay.scale 0.50 (or whatever you want) in rcon console and do server.writecfg so you save the config.

Also a little tip for you, Liam! Seems like global.restart would be perfect for you:
global.restart - Restart the server - with x seconds warning. If no seconds given, server restarts after 5 minutes. (300 seconds)

Note: I've just been googling and cannot guarantee any correct answers :P

EDIT1: Changed some things
EDIT2: Added decay.scale as the recommended.
EDIT3: Here is a handy list over current server commands and options! https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Rust_Dedicated_Server#Server_Commands [External Link]
EDIT4: Hopefully last edit, added this: global.restart

Liam, I believe you have options for this on Linux too with webrcon? That should open up the posibility to properly control it through multiple tools (web, linux, windows, android..). http://facepunch.github.io/webrcon/#/home [External Link]

If you're running a Rust server you need to add "+rcon.web 1" to the command line to enable web based Rcon. If you don't define a port it will use the default port, but you will also need to set a password, which you can do with "+rcon.password password".
Doesn't this solve the issue of doing server admin stuff?

EDIT: Seems like the say command that is available through webrcon should work fine, and I see multiple good web interfaces and android clients for this :)

Quoting: GuestAre these in-game settings or somewhere else?
Those are settings for your PC, you can use the tool cpupower (or cpupower-gui if you prefer) to set your cpu:

sudo cpupower frequency-set -g  performance

GPU can be changed through your nvidia-settings panel, or command line if you prefer:
nvidia-settings -a [gpu:0]/GPUPowerMizerMode=2

In certain games those two settings help me alot, especially in Rust and games that utilize wine.

Quoting: GuestYou get 90FPS on this game?!? What am I doing wrong? I tried to play Rust with a friend the other day and I was struggling to get 20-25 FPS with all my settings pretty much on minimum. 6700k, 16GB, GTX 970 4GB .. KDE Neon
Make sure your GPU is set to max performance and your CPU is set to performance mode, it makes a world of a difference for me!

Quoting: Mountain ManSounds like the perfect game for trolls and griefers. No thanks.
It's a survival sandbox game after all, which gives me a lot more motivation to protect my shit and work for my own protection. I guess it depends on what you like - but calling it "Trolls and griefers" is a bit wrong when that's half the game :P
That fact that you can be robbed and killed while offline is a deal-breaker as far as I'm concerned. That sounds like the opposite of fun.
Again, it depends on how you look at it and what you like. Instead of looking at it in a negative light, for me it's a challenge. Keep my character, items and inventory safe while I'm away. Being a bit excited every time you log on and see that your strategy seems to have worked is fantastic - and coming back from a short vacation to see that everything you worked for taken away by another player makes you rethink that strategy.

I do see your point of view though - and on a huge popular server I'd go mad myself, but the GoL server is chill so far for the most part :)

Quoting: EhvisI tried it for one evening and never went back to it. Performance was a major issue and graphics settings changed very little. It was mentioned that this game is VRAM hungry, so apparently you really do need more than 4 GB of it to get it to perform.
Yeah, but if you play on Fastest it works rather well and still looks gorgeous at times!
Quoting: EhvisSecond problem. I spent the first hour looking for stone. Even though rock is everywhere, you can't use it because you have to find specific boulders that I only found in one small cave. Maybe I'm missing something, but that just seems weird.
Hehe, you can't have ran far enough then :D Resources close to the beach are usually few and far between, likely because people spawn there?

Go close to mountains and you'll have more luck. Or just poke me or my partner in-game (both named nox) and we'll give you all the stone you need :P

Thank you for this server, Liam! My partner and I have had so many great moments so far, even met the only guy we kinda sorta trust.

I very much recommend this game, but be prepared to run it on low settings unless you have very up-to-date hardware as the game starts chugging badly on higher settings after a while (seems like vram is very important for it)

Quoting: liamdaweso it's not an essential feature.
Thank you so much for the reply!

Considering that I've seen more people than me already recognizing the lack of shared accounts I think I would consider it an essential feature - or at least a very important one as the community is likely to be rather shared between both sites.

EDIT: I don't want to be too mean as I think the new project is really cool! I just hope this one feature will be in place (securely and proper) rather quickly :)

Awesome, can't wait for the account bridge to be in place (it really should have been from release). Having two accounts for what I would consider one system seems silly. However, I'll be reading and enjoying it :)

(Why not just share the user database, or mirror them?) Answer: They are 100% split, so that makes sense.
