The Steam Hardware Survey for October 2018 shows a small drop for Linux, a look at daily and monthly active users

We need Ellon Musk to start give away free top-notch hardware to anyone who signs the paper saying they'll game solely on Linux for a year.

I can confirm Steam Controller can finally be set to mouse input (as opposed to joystick-mouse) without hitting the "invisible walls" in Kingdom Come: Deliverance (btw. very good game, works with Steam Play after linking missing DLLs between folders as described on ProtonDB).

Liam, how about them easy "click to add event" calendar links with similar articles in the future? I'm personally interested in Google Calendar but folks would probably like Microsoft and Apple solutions covered as well.

Very well executed PR stunt. It was loud, after it's over there's no harm done, everybody's talking, everybody's happy with how it ended, everybody sees it's not a big bad studio but a one hard working man with feelings and emotions who makes mistakes and righteously amends all his bad decisions because the good in us all must prevail. If it wasn't the PR stunt, all the better.

Quoting: cprnI'll believe they've "changed" when they make all their new DirectX releases just thin open source wrappers around Vulkan and only support GPUs with open drivers. Now that would raise a lot of eyebrows. Mostly in Nvidia corner.
But just open sourcing their current(and future) DX versions wouldn't be enough? Even if they ported it to Linux? It has to be on top of Vulkan?
What would access to DirectX source give us? We'd be able to make DirectX better by finding bugs and submitting fixes. That's it. DirectX can't be ported to Linux per se, it's a bunch of Windows core calls. Its API can be re-implemented on Linux, that's what wine does and yeah, maybe wine folks would benefit but nobody else, really. On the other hand the overhead that GPU drivers have just to support all possible APIs is huge. Vulkan solves this and it is a standard. IMHO we don't need Microsoft opening their code, we need them to comply with open standards instead of inventing their own concurrent solution each time new technology comes around.

Between the Stars looks like an incredible spaceship action game, coming to Linux

So... It's a space shooter? As in: you don't leave the ship?

Trailer brings to mind two titles. Kingdom (Classic, New Lands) and Darkest Dungeon. As you commented, it seems very laid back by comparison... if it didn't have the cannon I'd play it because the other two are really time consuming.

Tried playing that with a few friends and we gave up after not even half an hour, with the terrible net code, horrible movement and just not fun gameplay driving us away.
I don't know this one but Gang Beasts is pretty awesome in a very specific environment. You need 4 players because 2 is not enough chaos and 3 always ends up 2:1. You need local multiplayer because, well, I agree with your net code comment. You need 4 Xbox controllers because it can't handle anything else well. Controls are okay but need some getting used to. This game looks like it uses very similar system, at least for grabbing and punching.

The recent Steam Play beta is now out for everyone, plus a minor beta update

One of the companies providing software for my former employer had a minor glitch in their application's update system about 3 years ago that resulted in patches not being properly advertised to Linux clients. Obviously they fixed it right away and promised it'll auto update for each instance next time it bootstraps itself during restart. I don't work there for over 2 years but last month when I talked to my former colleagues they didn't hide their jolly grins announcing none of the machines we used to support had a chance to download that update yet. Linux stability is a bitch when it comes to updates on restart. :D
