Embrace, extend, and protect? Microsoft joins the Open Invention Network to 'protect Linux and open source'

I'll believe they've "changed" when they make all their new DirectX releases just thin open source wrappers around Vulkan and only support GPUs with open drivers. Now that would raise a lot of eyebrows. Mostly in Nvidia corner.

Err, I'm too lazy nowadays. If it's not on Steam, I'm not playing. But they have my thumbs-up on YouTubes. Gamesplay and style look really nice.

Valve have released some interesting statistics about controller use

Quoting: tonRWell, it have significant flaw here. Some cheap non-brand (sometimes faked) controller are emulating/using/tricking as Xbox 360 drivers to work on Windows instead "others". [...]
So what? How's that changing anything? Neither developers nor Steam should care if the controller is fake or not, if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's a duck and you need to code for the duck. The more controllers behave in a same way the better. I would personally prefer it was 27 millions of Steam Controllers, obviously, because we'd get better in-game support... but in general the less widely adopted standards the better and 4 ain't bad. Could be better but ain't bad.

Anyone can make a "conceptual demo" of several scenes in Unity or UE and promise stars but networking, actual glue holding everything together, optimization and bug fixing is what concepts don't include and where most projects die. I'm not excited yet. Above said, neither startups nor kickstarters ever excite me.

Quoting: cprnIt does, I opted out of Windows activation on every single laptop I ever bought for my family, 7 of them IIRC over last 2 years. It's anything between 70 to 100 USD (250 to 350 PLN) depending on Windows version.
Wow, that’s great. Did you ask the laptop manufacturer for the refund? Which brand was it?
Always asked the retailer quoting applicable local consumer protection laws. You need to be a consumer (not a business) and you need OEM software to be a separate position on your laptop invoice. Retailer can't ask for the device back unless they sell the same hardware without OS as well. Retailers just send licenses from refunds back to their distributors.
It's nice to live in country that have strong and ENFORCEABLE consumer protections. If in Malaysia, asking to opt out Windows at any PC shops will be answered by "Windows included in warranty, cannot remove." Even pre-build desktop PC built by PC shops also includes Windows in their warranty.

It's hard to opt out Windows here, unless if you're bought a 2nd hand Desktop/Laptop PC (as most Windows installed on used PC are pirated :P).
Don't Lenovo and Dell sell their laptops without Windows there? Articles don't seem to change if I switch the region to Malaysia:

Quoting: cprnAgreed! Give me that and an 80 inch TV and I'm golden in 80% of games. No need for the bulky 555 grams around my head.
Personally, I've always despised TV for, well... just about any task. I'd prefer multiple smaller monitors or micro projectors. Greater pixel density, better prices, more configurable, and none of that "smart" TV nonsense(yet).

About the "bulkiness" VR headsets, of all the headsets I've used( GearVR, HTC Vive, and PSVR), none of them have ever felt uncomfortable except around the bridge of the nose. However, the headset is not supposed to rest there, it needs to be adjusted to rest mostly on the back of your head and forehead. PSVR, due to it's halo design, made it really easy to achieve this.
I only tried HTC Vive Pro in a gaming cafe. It was neither functional nor comfortable. Didn't matter how much I tightened the only strap there was, it would rest on my nose bridge (I don't have a big nose) and it was moving dragging my face in every possible direction each time I jerked my head quickly (which, let's be honest, VR games make you do a lot). I get the Pro version is bulkier than the original (~700 grams) but I can't imagine the non-Pro being much better.

And yeah, TVs aren't great. But with current prices, nah, I just bought the biggest they had instead of a projector to watch movies and couch-game.

Quoting: WarpigI can't help but wonder if this is steam controller 2.0 I'm hoping the knuckles controllers have non vr applications. Just looks like they would make a sweet non-vr contoller as well. Those mad scientists at valve:woot:
