Valve have opened up the code for their VR 'Moondust' tech demos, also a third revision of the Knuckles controller

I wonder if virtual keyboard would be reliable with those. AFAIU the specs they can detect not only the releasing of a single finger but also the proximity of the finger to the controller so in theory displaying a standard QWERTY keyboard and detecting key "press" should be possible. Goodby mechanical clicks, hello force feedback?

Valve have been fined 147 thousand euros in France

I think this penalty is pre-refund policy. I don't know French law but I know of similar situation where a local content provider got 12 months to fix high severity issues with their delivery platform after which they had to face another audit. Ended up paying about 6% of the original penalty and got another 12 months to fix remaining minor issues (the date's almost due and they still didn't fix them BTW).

Quoting: x_wing[...] So, if you're lucky enough, you can actually get a Microsoft refund for an OEM key you never used on your computer. [...] would be nice to know if this refund policy works in the EU.
It does, I opted out of Windows activation on every single laptop I ever bought for my family, 7 of them IIRC over last 2 years. It's anything between 70 to 100 USD (250 to 350 PLN) depending on Windows version.

Yeah, I really wanted to play that. Shame.
Well, if they ever get it ported there will be at least two players on-line.

The rather good hack and slash Hammerwatch had a big update recently, great co-op game for Linux

Wait... What? The twin stick controls were in-game two years ago, no? :/ I finished it with a friend on two Xbox controllers using left stick for character movement and the right one for targeting. Does twin stick mean something else?

Maybe the proper question nowadays would be "When did you last time buy a game without Linux support to play it on Linux"?

Replace with symlinks to /dev/null?

My take on SteamPlay is maybe unpopular but there are two types of usage there: whitelisted only and for all titles. The latter is a meaningful information as it's similar to Wine and probably requires you to tinker around or at least to check the game compatibility reports. Former is officially supported - a built-in function, therefore no tinkering - IMO it's a meaningless information comparable to asking whether a user starts games via desktop shortcut or the "Play" button in the Steam client's library view.

If we really want meaningful information there should be at least 5 questions involved, I think:

  • When was the last time you used Wine to play a Windows game?

  • When was the last time you used SteamPlay to play a whitelisted Windows game?

  • When was the last time you used SteamPlay to play an unsupported Windows game?

  • How many times during last month you had to tinker to run a Windows game with Wine?

  • How many times during last month you had to tinker to run a Windows game with SteamPlay?

And I say "at least" because it doesn't include Lutris and virtualization. For everyone who really wants to have a complete image of ways to game on Linux there's a series in the making on the Level1Linux YouTube channel [External Link].

Soldak's latest action RPG Din's Legacy now has an action-packed trailer

This looks like a 10th Unity project of a 15 year old who just finished reading The Witcher series. It's not particularly bad but if it was sold on Steam some time ago we'd bash Valve for not having more strict policy on what can be published in store.
