I think you'll find there's a lot more than just 17 Linux Minecraft games. My youngest Son has been playing it since it first appeared.
Our kids have two copies so they can play together.

Quoting: XelancerAs for the SSD topic; remember games don't run in isolation, depending on how much memory you have, there is always disk caching going on, other services / TSRs are swapping data they don't need to reduce memory load, etc. Never mind the fact that SSD are between 4 to 10 times faster - and that's in a perfect world so it excludes seek time - where the HDD is perfectly un-fragmented.
You are talking about swap being used during gameplay… That’s guarranted to ruin you game experience, even when the swap in on an SSD (I had that happen when playing ARK).
In reality SSDs are useless for most games because they are already loading instantly from an HDD. And when they are slow to load it’s often because they are compiling shaders.
"loading instantly from an HDD", .... Hmmmmm. Copied any large files from one HDD to another recently? It's not very instant.... way faster on a SSD.

The point of SSD is not to make any difference in frame rates or active gameplay, it is all about loading times. Some games might not see any difference and other can make a huge difference. There are also other hardware factors like the GPU that can reduce the benefit of an SSD.

For a game with 60 GB of data to load, it is quite possible there would be a substantial reduction in loading screen times.

Quoting: cRaZy-bisCuiTYou guys talking about space left on your SSDs are aware of the fact that loading times if games on HDDs and SSDs won't differ that much most of the time? Unless the game streams a massive amount of data while you're in game there's almost no difference at all.

It's not exactly worth buying a SSD just for games. You can either search for tests or benchmark this on your own. Of course a SSD would never be slower than a HDD, but most of the time, for games, it wouldn't be noticeable faster.
SSD's are just faster, period. Whether it makes a difference in one situation and not in another is not really something I am interested in. Most performance gains come from initial start times. Once applications get loaded into memory there isn't much benefit, but when a lot of data needs to be read into memory quickly it makes a large difference. My OS is on an SSD also. Reliability is a big issue for me and SSD's are much more reliable. Sometimes there are firmware issues which require an update, but the drive itself hasn't failed. Of course they will eventually, but I haven't had a single SSD fail even though I've had several hard drives fail that I bought at the same time or after I bought the SSD's.

Mad Max released for Linux, port report and review available

Quoting: MblackwellI'm sad that you can't use the mouse and joystick at the same time via the Steam Controller. I had asked Feral and they said the Steam Controller was supported... but that's one of the major features of the controller!
I noticed this to. I can't walk and rotate the view at the same, very annoying. We'll not sure if we are talking about the same thing or not. I can't use the right touchpad while moving the left analog on the steam controller in this game.

Quoting: m2mg2Wow, the depot for the game is 64GB. I might have to get a bigger hard drive, or add one. All my ssd's are close to or over 70% full and I don't want to reduce their performance.
Good job I just grabbed a 1TB EVO 850 then isn't it :D
Yeah and they're getting cheaper which is good. I have a 750GB, and two 400GB's. At the rate AAA game data is growing I'd like to replace the 400GB's with 1TB's. I don't have that kind of money right now. I could delete some game files for games I'm not currently playing, but I like to keep them around in case I get an itch to play them.

Wow. My first SSD has 80. X)

I wouldn't be afraid of filling them, they already have spare place you can't access (as you probably know).
It isn't about running out the spare sectors for when some go bad.

I may be a little aggressive with wanting to keep them around 70% though

Quoting: operaNice, this comes earlier than expected. Awesome performance from Feral!
Perfect time for my Feral christmas wishlist: Rise of the Tomb Raider. Please! PLZ!
The Linux depot for Rise of the Tomb Raider got removed. It seems to have either been canceled or integrated with a mainline branch. Someone mentioned that there was an exclusivity clause with Microsoft that is about to expire, so if we're lucky it is done and about to be released. If we're not it may be canceled.

Feral have released the minimum and recommend system requirements for Mad Max on Linux

An FX 8350 is pretty hardcore for minimum specs. It is pretty close to the min and rec specs for the Windows so I don't think it's legit to put much heat on Feral about it. Although an 8350 is recommended for Windows and Min for Linux. The difference between the min and rec for Intel is 200 mhz, but AMD doesn't even have a recommended processor. I have an 8350, hopefully my GTX 980 will offset my cpu. Still shocking they can't even recommend a 4GHZ 8 core cpu for a video game.

Quoting: dubigrasuI don't get that Feral radar. The "Depth charge" thing is closer than Mad Max which is supposed to be released now.
They're always saying they don't get it either... ;)
It seems like Mad Max was the Foxy hint, which I don't get.
