The response to s&box from Facepunch going open source has been "overwhelmingly positive"

this is interesting... I would've loved to try it, but what am I missing? Steam version doesn't allow installation, just goes to wishlist.. and where are these native linux binaries, that were added to some open source repo?

Civilization VII gets a mixed reception on Steam, Firaxis say they're listening and put up a small roadmap

Hmh, it's just weird to me... how people are drawn to buy it before it's out, and then complaining in social media what is wrong.. or worse yet, maybe not even playing themselves, but reading other peoples comments and then complaining. (not directing this comment to this particular article)

it's a weird world today.. I kind of understand game studios, it's good to get the stuff out there as early as possible, and get comments, so it will be ready when it's out.. (or as in good shape as it can be when it has to be out) but this kind of thing.. hmm, I don't know.

hmmhmm.. I also am not sure do we need another civ? the ones previously were fine, I myself liked all the otherones, maybe Civ V from the more modern ones is the one I have played most.. so if I need a game of this type, I launch that.. (civ VI I have but never finished a game) do something new!

Free Stars: Children of Infinity coming to Linux after smashing Kickstarter goals

from the looks of it Godot is used (with some own addon code for multiplayer?) ... so I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to just export to linux as well as other platforms Godot supports..

really happy to see this anyways, hope it all works out!

Plasma 6 full steam ahead with only one showstopper left for Wayland by default
30 Nov 2023 at 4:19 pm UTC

Quoting: fenglengshun.. .
thanks @fenglengsun
this was somewhat what I was expecting. of course, this upgrade will only mean that it defaults to this, not totally dropping support for X or changing my current configs... because I have been running steadily updates for a long time. so this would affect only new install..i hope.. if I understand correctly?

Plasma 6 full steam ahead with only one showstopper left for Wayland by default
29 Nov 2023 at 3:50 pm UTC Likes: 1

I'm a (too) long time linux user. so using KDE from the start. I am not on same boat with the comments of KDE 4, or 5 being bad. I got used to those, worked fine with my workflow. and this latest 5 being best I have used so far. so, not problems with KDE/Plasma. Loveit!
but with this 6 I am abit anxious about it sitting on this Wayland thing which I have I have no
experience at all.

Is it ready? does it work?
sorry for bothering but information seems so scattered.

My main use is graphical applications like Blender, Inkscape, GIMP, Scribus etc..

and, as this is a gaming site, I play ofourse games. will it change things?

thanks.

p.s. sorry for scattered thoughts.

Steam Autumn Sale 2021 is live now

Quoting: FrawoI think I had the same problem, so I uninstalled the game. Will definitly have a look at it again when the issue is fixed. On ProtonDB, someone recently suggested running the game with Proton-6.9-GE-2 and some extra tweaks, have you tried that?
hmm, I tried that now that you mentioned.. it's the same. I also tried all the availble launch option.. mouse look still seems to get stuck at times.. especially when enemies are near. otherwise the game works just fine and runs fast and smooth.. also mouse is smooth when it works. weird thing. :(

Quoting: wvstolzing[...] but I'd recommend getting it all the same. Same with Dishonored 1 & 2 (80% off).
can you run Dishonored 2 just fine in Proton? because I have weird problems with mouse look and been waiting for a Proton version that would fix it.. (I've tried so many wines and protons..)

the problem is, mouse look sometimes get stuck.. laggy.. cannot turn, or it jumps. I read somewhere it has maybe something to do with fps lock or something, don't know. it's a shame, since I really liked the first game, and been anxious to play this one but haven't gotten very far as it's very frustrating..

Minecraft Java will move to Microsoft accounts in 2021, gets new social screen

Quoting: TyronDiscarding the Mojang accounts seems like just another step of slowly embracing and eventually gobbling up the game for maximized monetization, in an abstract sense. They need to get back the investment, after all.
what do you mean? the game wasn't free, I paid for all the accounts already.
are you saying you think they will start charging monthly fees or something?

btw. nice game that Vintage Story, I bought it for me and my daughter as we love everything crafting and surviving and farming.. and it has lot of good in it, but some things threw us away a bit like the complexity of crafting. it's a whole lot of hassle to just produce a simple thing, and then you need it again you forgot how you did it :)
but, actually a nice reminder, thank you, haven't tried it for some months, and I see there has been updates, so time to check it out again!!
