Minecraft Java will move to Microsoft accounts in 2021, gets new social screen
24 Oct 2020 at 9:29 pm UTC

hmm.. I find it a bit funny that people stop playing the game just because owner of the company changes.. I was ofcourse worried that linux support would be dropped when Microsoft bought it, but instead of giving up, me and my kids just kept on playing and building worlds.

for these years that Microsoft has been the owner, things have been working just fine, very nice new releases of the game, and everytime I update my servers and we start new worlds.. I've been very happy so far.

now, if they just change the way you login, and not something like make you buy the game again, who really cares? nowadays everything requires registeration, I have millions of accounts to all kind of services and sites. I'm sure some of those are already owned by Microsoft anyways ;)

Manjaro levels up as a serious Linux distribution
10 Sep 2019 at 6:28 pm UTC

heh, I was about to write appraising comment here for manjaro.. as I always thought Arch-type distributions were just hard to manage... but I had been running Manjaro on my spare laptop for couple of weeks now and was quite surprised how easy and nice it was.

well, after todays normal update it broke. doesn't boot, kernel panic.

sooo.... I think I just stick with the ubuntus for now.. my main machine has been running several years without any problems.. version after version dist-upgrades, and still going strong :) I just liked the idea of rolling release, but apparently this wasn't it.

Anodyne 2: Return to Dust confirmed for launch on August 12th, Linux support included
8 Aug 2019 at 8:51 am UTC

hmm, ok, it does look interesting. but just looking at the video, "gorgeus locales" .. I don't know, it just looks
pixelated and messy with wonky camera. and without any action, so basicly it's a walking sim?
if it's that, it really should be in modern style, like for example Journey, or Dear Esther and the likes.

A three-way look at Rocket League on Linux, with D9VK versus Linux Native
5 Aug 2019 at 10:31 pm UTC

Quoting: tuubiThat probably means your i7 is perfectly capable of feeding your modest GPU even on a single thread. I guess D9VK might be worth a try.
ah.. well, good to know. I'm fine with it, I don't think I bother trying to get into that proton thing for some extra fps. game works perfectly, no crashes, controllers work, sound works.. so I'm happy with the linux version.

with wine, there is almost always something that doesn't quite work.

hmm, I tried the "__GL_THREADED_OPTIMIZATIONS=1 %command%" thing, but it gave the exact same FPS here.. D9VK I didn't try.. and looking at the screenshots, background details are very blurry on that..

The RPG 'Wasteland 3' from inXile Entertainment has a new trailer from E3 and a new launch window
10 Jun 2019 at 6:08 am UTC

Microsoft owns inXile studio? so what makes them qualify as indie developers, and asking support in fig?

@14: no, this trailer kind of made me even more interested just because of that :)

D9VK for translating D3D9 to Vulkan in Wine has a big new release out
30 May 2019 at 7:42 am UTC

Quoting: trawzAwesome! I was playing A Hat in Time through Proton, but the performance was quite bad. Switched to d9vk and it was incredibly fast, but I experienced some crashes. Seems those are fixed now!
hmm, strange, I have been playing HatInTime, and decided to try d9vk because there always has been some problems with textures etc.. well, level doesn't even load for me. I can hear level audio kicking in and then crash on some memory allocation error.. something about video memory.
removed d9vk and works again like before...

Time for school as the big Cities: Skylines - Campus expansion is out now
22 May 2019 at 8:16 am UTC

a question for people playing Cities Skylines: with all the DLCs do you still manage to play it?
I mean, I bought couple, and with every DLC the game gets heavier and heavier, even if I am not necessarily using everything in the map.. so currently, load time is HIGH, and it's on the limits of me able to play it even anymore.

what are the current real requirements for the game if you have DLCs installed?
or is my system just broken?
