It slightly annoys me that computer companies OR AMD is not better at making sure AMD APUs end up in computers like this.
Where I work we have our own built AMD embedded APUs on a inhouse designed motherboard, for other purposes, but they work really well for desktop use as well. And at even smaller footprint than this.
If only AMD solutions would show up more often...

Steam Deck Tips and Tricks Part 2

How about adding Steam Deck to the GoL statistics. Something like: "Do you own a Steam Deck" and then allow users to select the version. Or more broadly "Do you own a handheld PC gaming device" and then letting people select among the most popular "PC handhelds" like the Steam Deck.

Steam Deck production better than expected, Q4 emails already going out

Every time they "ramp up production" and are able to deliver more fast to customers, I fear that it is because too many people have cancelled their order. On the other hand, it is much more ideal if people can order and then get a Steam Deck almost immediately. It can also mean that it becomes more readily available to the general public, and show up in electronics stores (though that probably requires the software to be slightly more mature still).

I do hope that it is simply because they are able to produce them faster, and they therefore end up in more users' hands. At this rate it may almost be available for Christmas for new buyers.

This and a way to tell if a WiFi network is metered. I like automatic updates, but it is so annoying if you are on a metered network and it starts downloading a multiple GB update to a game you wanted to play. Here you may not have enough data to download the update, and because it started the update, I cannot play that game now.
I usually have unlimited data, but when traveling, there may be limits on on the data of my cellular network, see EU.
For what it's worth if you want to download games but don't want your deck screen on, you can always download the game on your linux desktop and simply copy over the steam game folder to your card directly.

The deck will verify the files when you hit install and then you should be good to go!

Or you can set the card as a library on your computer as well, hit install and place it into that library and move the card back over to the deck when finished.

I had to do this with one of my games because it was much faster than waiting for my internet to download the game again (The game was over 100GB).

Although, an option to set networks to metered would be great!

True, but no matter how you put it, it feels like a waste of power - even if it is connected to charger. You can do other things while downloading, but generally I just leave the Steam Deck for it to download, as it often is too taxing to do any gaming at the same time. And if I am on the go and an update has started, I would like to download it, but not waste the screen power. Even if it is a minor impact, it still feels like a waste.

Steam Deck Beta update brings bug fixes, external display improvement
2 Aug 2022 at 6:57 am UTC Likes: 3

I am using the stable channel on my Steam Deck and can't wait until they (probably) make a huge stable upgrade with many of the beta features.
I do hope that they fix some minor annoyances that I have. For an example the force shutdown Steam+b (hold) does not always force a game to close. In most cases you can still start other games, however, unless the Steam Deck is restarted, you cannot start that game that is not shutting down properly. Also sometimes when the Steam Deck is woken up, the password unlock goes crazy (automatically "pressing" buttons") and only suspending and waking it up again fixes it.

In the store (which I assume can be fixes without a system update) they should add two things to a game's page.
  • Have the ability to see how much space a game takes up. Currently they have removed System requirements from the Steam Deck store page, which I can understand why, but it would be so much more convenient to buy games, if I know how much disk space it requires. At least they could have a toggle somewhere to just give display the system requirements from the desktop store.

  • Let me click the images on the game's page to enlarge them. It is a bit annoying that a movie can go full screen, but I cannot enlarge the images of the game. (Also the movie stops the first time volume is changed)

  • Navigation using the d-pad in the store is very awkward, when clicking on the Reviews button and then afterwards using the d-pad to scroll down. Here feels like the cursor is still located in the top of the page, which causes d-pad-down to scroll up until it "meets" the view

I can confirm that the 64bit DirectX9 version of the maelstrom engine does work in my initial testing with the new horizons mod. Shown windowed for screenshot purposes.

I should also note there is an open source engine re-implementation project underway.

Amazing I thought this game was mostly forgotten to time. Not much about it on YouTube, but I still have my physical copy of the pirates of the Caribbean version, which I have fond memories of. Didn't know it was actually based on something else.

Not long ago, Google and YouTube would think you meant "Stream Deck" when you searched for "Steam Deck", now I can imagine it being the opposite. At least Google does not suggest "Stream Deck" to me anymore.

Quoting: minkiuA V2 with Thunderbolt 4+ (this one could have had it if Intel didn't have the TB4 exclusivity, albeit a bit more expensive) must happen, a decent handheld laptop with eGPUs support, it's a no-brainer.
Not true. For about a year it has been possible to buy AMD motherboards with Thunderbolt 4 support. At some point last year I was about to get an ASUS ProArt B550 CREATOR, which has two Thunderbolt 4 ports built in.[/quote]
