Quoting: PhiladelphusUbuntu 20.04 LTS with either a PS3 or PS4 controller connected via Bluetooth. Every other game works perfect like this. Even when using Steam input it gets borked.Quoting: MasterSleortI wonder whether Crosscode is going to be playable. It has a native build, but that one completely messes up the controls, which makes it unplayable with the native build. What distro are you having problems with? I played through the entirety of CrossCode (including DLC) last year on Debian 10 and had zero issues. I even fired it up just now to confirm it was the native build and not Proton.
The developers say that it is a problem with are JavaScript library they depend on and thus "are unable to fix it".
I hope the steam deck gains enough traction, so that the developers try and fix the issue.
This game seems such a great fit for this device.
Oh, wait, do you mean it doesn't work with controllers? (Since I played with mouse and keyboard and don't own a controller to check.) If that's the case I hope it gets fixed, since this was once of the games I definitely was going to play on the Deck.

Quoting: GuestI'd love to see a verified for proton icon for the steam store alongside the other operating system icons.Technically there already is, as games that are verified for proton are "whitelisted" and gets added a Steam icon (the one you would normally associate with Linux support).

Man, can we just appreciate how great the Linux and open source community is as a whole. I often forget a lot of the stuff that I use is fully or partly developed by people in their spare time, simply because they see a need and then share their work for free. It really is something we need to appreciate a lot more.
I think GamingOnLinux should probably have a section regarding much of the useful stuff and applications that are available for us for free and are open source. Often we hear about it hear on this amazing website, but only when we need the tools or tweaks do we actually care. At that point it is hard to track down that old article where it was mentioned.
It may also be useful for new gamers on Linux.
I can think of a couple of applications that could be in this section:

And maybe they have to leverage it, so that the Steam Deck becomes valuable to Valve, but this is just me wishing it ends up like this ;)

Quoting: subBut maybe they will if the Steam Deck takes off. Since there is no cellular version of it, most people on the go will probably play single player games. To some degree, the limitations of the Source engine actually complements gaming on the go, as levels cannot be too big before it has to load next level.Quoting: ThatOneGuyWon't happen.Quoting: subI see the first screenshot and have to think "That game is almost 20 years old???".Couldn't agree more with this, Valve should just do that already.
Aged so well, imho.
I'd take an HL2:E3 anytime full price, developed with the plain old engine.
So much fun I had with that game. Still have in the many reruns.
It would make for an amazing extra surprise for the release of the steam deck.
I too would buy it in a heartbeat, old engine or no.
It looks like their single-player games/franchises became only valuable to Valve,
when the try to introduce a major new feature (sw/hw).
Unthinkable (to me) they'd release "just" a new awesome single-player game.
That's just not how they leverage their franchises - unfortunately.

Quoting: WorMzyOh dear, I hope that it not working on Linux isn't a sign that they're planning a proton-by-default policy for the Deck, even if there's a native Linux version available. It'll hardly encourage devs to release native versions of games 'for more control' if that's the case. :unsure:I also would say why go the lengths to add DXVK-native for HL2 (presumably intended for the Steam Deck) and then not have the gamepad UI working on that with DXVK-native and instead use Proton.

Quoting: GuestI have sometimes thought that Valve should buy Feral and use them as an in-house porting division. Then they could offer partnership with different publishers/developers to port the games to the Steam Deck / Linux.Quoting: AnzaTerrible, really. Feral ports were great quality.Quoting: Liam DaweThat's something that must have happened with several developers and publishers when Proton came out.Quoting: F.UltraWhich could be either Feral not selling enough of HITMAN to make it interesting to also port 2 or that IO refused to sell the Linux rights to Feral (or they demanded a too high price for the license).Probably a mix of things. I saw a developer at IO tweet directly about HITMAN 2 running in Proton so they probably didn't see a need to partner with Feral on it.

Quoting: MigwellThey seem to have finally pushed controller support to the full version of the game. It was in beta for ages, but it's now appearing on the Steam sidebar so I'm happy!Maybe they are making sure it works on the Steam Deck.

I wonder if the so called remake that TakeTwo / Rockstar are making is actually based on the reverse-engineered code from this repository.
