I hope it is not doom, as many users will have it already. We need something big and shiny and new so that gamers are happy and feral still gets the buck
Developer of 'Steam Marines' talks sales, Linux represented 2% over the lifetime of it

Quoting: WorthlessBumsAlso there appears to be at least one person here who'll be mad at me regardless of what I say... ...Hey, first of all thanks for prompt explanations, it's always scary in the dark for the passionate Linux lovers. Second - ignore the guy, he must be drunk. Third - I dare you to make an early access technical demo build for Linux, might be sold through steam as pre-purchase for the real game if you want some money flowing . Don't worry about bugs, let them be, people know what they sign for and most of all might even help you somehow. You know that here and phoronix is a nest of devs, (including Intel, Nvidia and AMD devs) and they might just become interested in some bugs. If it is not against steam guidelines, that is.
I have a game breaking bug with my fog of war regarding Linux machines on Intel HD graphics. ...
You're right that it's not completely fair to compare differing time frames of Linux to non-Linux sales...
It's unlikely I'll release Steam Marines 2 with WML builds on day one just because of the volume of issues I'd have to work through. The current plan is to launch the Windows build first, hammer out any outstanding issues, then bring Mac and Linux builds to parity.

Wow either Valve or this guy is greedy.
If you believe steamspy, this got 111,707 ± 8,641 sales. Lets just imagine 111k players, of which 2% would be 2220 Linux players. Then lets assume a bizarre idea that they all got it for its lowest price on humble bundle (90% off), at 2eur, which I believe does not even count as Linux sale. It would be 4440Eur at that, which for such a simplistic and easy to port game should already be a tad less than extra money, ooor if we approximate and take 50% off (10eur), and get like 22,2k euros. I need about a couple years to earn this kind of money. And it came only from Linux. How long should it take to port to Linux, or how much should you pay Valve for this money to be dismissable? It really looks to me like 1-2 developers could easily spawn a game like this.
Edit: was typing too long lol, someone already tried imagining the money. But still, I find it very realistic, and I believe he just imagined overtaking Linux with a delayed port and bask in riches and fame.

So, maybe Feral could explain a bit on AMD? I mean, I was kind of planning to get the game and season pass, is it worth a try on mesa-git? Does it have visual glitches? Does it run in 2spf? I mean we all know that your games do not support AMD GPUs, but how bold is the "not supported" this time?

Now we actually had reasonable time to wait and not buy the game for other platforms :O
Feral is real quick, good job! And Square Enix does a great experiment, hope it will prove useful to them.

AMD lol? I can't even. Sorry, but even discrete AMD on an OK-ish PC is nothing on Linux. Some games are playable, yes, but otherwise it's an indie machine.

Well, no problem with me anymore. This ping-pong game seriously demoted them in my eyes and this uncertainty might just remove all benefits from Linux port for them. Thankfully, Feral got us covered on action games and the money planned on SW2 will simply be a nice kickstart for Deus Ex purchase / Mad Max repurchase.
