FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage updated with Steam Deck support and no more DRM

Quoting: D34VA_Anyone who has played both FlatOut and Burnout: Is this series comparable? Some of my best memories are of Burnout 3 and Revenge. Does Flatout scratch a similar itch?
I only watched my roommate play Burnout but Flatout 1 & 2 are among my favorite racing games. They look rather different, at least on the surface.

I can tell you what you can expect from Flatout series:

- satisfying, but mostly arcade experience (you can modify the settings to make it more realistic)
- simple car upgrade system, variety comes mostly from driving different cars (think the usual top speed/acceleration/handling stat choice)
- nitro boost goes brrrrrr
- upbeat 2000s rock & metal soundtrack
- beautiful, mostly offroad & rural tracks (I recommend turning off bloom though)
- demolition and stunt elements in most tracks
- weird-ass alternative game mode in which you can throw the driver into a large shooting/bullseye circle or jump through fiery hoops

I've always just used Steam Remote Play for Linux host, Parsec for Windows host. Still, I am glad those projects exist, streaming is awesome.

One day we will get rid of GPUs (and other hardware) competing on secrecy & exclusive features (often not needed). Today we are a step closer to that day.

(at least on Linux, haha).

Happy to see them being on the top of the issue. Would be even happier if testing for this kind of use-case was part of their release routine ☺️.

Remote Play broken on Steam Deck with the February stable update
28 Feb 2024 at 5:50 pm UTC

Quoting: GuestIn case Valve doesn't provide a fix in a timely manner, it may be necessary to downgrade the client (I don't own a Steam Deck to test):

  • Enter desktop mode (Deck users)

  • Exit Steam

  • Launch Steam and downgrade using archived 1705108172 version:

steam -forcesteamupdate -forcepackagedownload -overridepackageurl http://web.archive.org/web/20240113112425if_/media.steampowered.com/client -exitsteam

  • If the client successfully downgrades and launches, inside `~/.steam/steam`, create a new `steam.cfg` file with contents:

    BootStrapperInhibitAll=enable

This is some dark magic, downloading Steam client from the Internet Archive :p
