NVIDIA release a new Vulkan Beta Driver with 470.56.05

Quoting: Sil_el_motI wonder if i can play in vr again with this version. Async reprojection broke it entirely for me.
For me too, I was looking forward to 470 to finally be able to VR on Linux and have a good experience. I'm seeing what looks like misaligned frames, almost looking like tracking errors sometimes. Also I see black streaks come in and out of view. What are you experiencing?
my steamvr doesnt even start properly. it connects to the base stations and controller but screen keeps black, and shortly (2sec) after connecting to stations and stuff the pc freezes a short time and then i get error 203.
all what changed on a before working system are the sytsem updates.
in windows it runs smooth af.

Quoting: GuestSame for me. I got it to work again by disabling async reprojection by setting enableLinuxVulkanAsync to false in ~/.steam/steam/config/steamvr.vrsettings (close SteamVR first).
didnt help... added this a while ago, but same situation... so i have to wait...

Great! i will give this a try ... seems promising!

i never seen the discussion about the lighthouse on/off-script.... i have mine automatically powering on when using steamvr and powering off using this steamcmd:

lh.py on; %command%; sleep 5; VR_PID=$(pidof vrserver); if [ -z $VR_PID ]; then echo "VR Server not found"; else while [ -d /proc/$VR_PID ]; do sleep 5; done; /path/to/lh.py off; fi

just like it should be and is working on windows

Quoting: Sil_el_motthats why i love nvidia, you have zero tinkering.
This is objectively false depending on what you're trying to do and your distribution.
ok. sure. it always depends, but for me i had only once big pain with nvidia, when drivers on arch were not working right and this update just happened while i was installing arch from ground up and thought it was my fault that i only got a black screen.
since then i had nothing to do with settings or setup-hazzle with the nvidia. but once again, i am just a gaming and a bit python-programming guy... not anything deep in the wonderful things i could maybe achive with my system

I'm using a Vega 56, very stable for quite some time. The Navi cards 5700XT is slightly better performing but the drivers support can be a bit more touchy, although it's always improving. I think big Navi is on it's way in the next few months, so maybe wait for that if you really want a high end AMD card.
Thanks for this insight.
i have an 1080 ti, from comparisons the 5700xt should be slightly faster and better but i dont feel like changing now, as long as the drivers are not yet ready to play without a lot of tinkering.
thats why i love nvidia, you have zero tinkering.
