SteamVR Beta gets an SDL fix for Fedora Linux fans

Quoting: BrokattHow is the VR experience on Linux? I have a Valve Index but haven't used it since I switched from Windows.
There are definitely issues, but there's also a lot that works well. With an Index, it's worth setting up.

Quoting: GuestBiggest frustration? Well, last I tried 2.0+, the bug that causes async reprojection to be unusable still hasn't been fixed:

That would be mine as well. No report from the last three betas though, so I may take my upcoming free week to run a few tests.

Quoting: GuestWait. Why? Is valve...? Why are they doing this? Is something with nvidia in the works or is it steamos?
Flirting with Nvidia to keep AMD on their toes?
Could be. I'm sure Valve would like to have options for any future hardware developments.

HELLDIVERS 2 sees over 130K bad reviews on Steam as Sony double down

Now, Sony seem to be doubling down on this. As shown on SteamDB the game is no longer available for purchase in 177 locations. Why? PlayStation Network is not available in a lot of places, and so forcing this will mean players in these regions will be unable to play the game.
This is where things get seriously immoral. If it was always the plan to enforce PSN accounts, why was the game sold in these countries?

HELLDIVERS 2 will soon actually require a PlayStation Network account

Quoting: GuestI bet they’re gonna add it to Zero Dawn and past games too, which should totally be illegal!
It should be illegal for companies to release a game without a launcher and account requirement but then patching it in years later.
I agree that retrofitting external dependencies should be illegal. But not that easy with these games. They're on GOG as well, where they would not be allowed to require this and at least on Steam you can always download an earlier build.

Roguelite survivor game Nordic Ashes: Survivors of Ragnarok has launched

When I first bought this game, I was not enjoying it. Couldn't get into it. Balance between characters seemed way off. Tried it again with the 1.0 version and I have to say that it's gotten a lot better. Balance is pretty good now and you can feel a pretty clear progression curve. Still a big grind though, but that's kind of a standard feature for these kinds of games. The game could do with a few more quality of life improvements, but it's enjoyable.

I skipped on it because of the external account requirement. Didn't even know that it wasn't needed all this time.

Quoting: TheRiddickI don't really see the reason why everyone who never plans to have a playstation needs now make a PSN account to play the game bought on steam. But apparently it was in the fine print somewhere.

is PSN store coming to PC? then that would make some sense.
I've heard word that Sony is trying to set up their own version of GamePass, so it makes sense (if somewhat scummy) that they'd be pressuring devs to require a login. I imagine Arrowhead is caught in the middle , and will see no benefit at all.

Hell, they won't even be the ones harvesting monetizable data.
Something like that would have been my guess. I wouldn't even be surprised if the "grace period" was done on purpose in order to give many more people a "smoother ride" into the game. That may sound a little conspiracy, but Sony has done worse things.

Not really much to go on. The trailer meaningless and it's coming to quest, which means that it'll be severely limited. Maybe it can get me hyped later, but today is not the day.

Fun to hear some insides. Very much looking forward to the expansion. Until then, I have the mammoth task of finishing the Space Exploration modpack.

Quoting: whizseNot sure why they link statically though. SDL still advises against doing so.
The article is not entirely clear, but since they're upstreaming code they added a function to it. Statically linking would prevent it from being accidentally replaced.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand nevermind.
Haha, sometimes it pays to be old.

Had a quick peek. Nothing too special or unexpected of course. Kind of fun to see a different style between parts of code. But I see no use for it other than preservation.
