Factorio on top. How could it be anything else.
It's funny to see so many differences. Both in games and in percentages. I don't really have a game that stands out very high. My top 5 is Factorio (13%), Witcher 3 (12%), Synth Riders (12%), Audica (7%) and Groove Gunner (7%). So that only accounts for half of my play time. And that doesn't even include games I played using Lutris or Heroic.
Other interesting stats are: 100% Linux with 26% in VR and 3% on Steam Deck. Also 24% of the games I played were 2023 releases, which is much higher than I expected. Only 8% are 8 years or older.

Steam Workshop gets even better with shareable Workshop Collections

One of the problems with these Steam services is that they only work on Steam. This means that games that want something that works for multiple stores tend to look elsewhere. This is the same thing why games on Steam will go to EOS for their online services. It's not always a bad thing. A game like Factorio has amazing mod support which works better than the Workshop. And since it is hosted by the devs themselves, it works just as good in the DRM free version.

This one looks kind of cool. To be fair, they seem to be sticking to the things they've learned to do well, so it doesn't look like an unreasonable goal. I assume they got rid of the terrain modification though. A procedural earth is fine as long as you don't need to keep track of all modifications.
The thing that I do wonder about is the networking aspect of it. Having a single environment without clear partitioning.... well, we're getting into Star Citizen ideas of seamless networking here and if you've followed that for a bit you know that this is not exactly off the shelf tech. But maybe they're going to cheat a little by having untraversable areas.

Quoting: cbonesIs it just me or does this look like it could be inspired by Zachtronics' games? A multi-solution, open-ended, puzzle game. Not surprising. The devs have mentioned a love for both Factorio and Zachtronics.

Some very impressive lighting going on in that trailer. If you forget the flashy vistas and look at the close shots of the main characters, it is hard to find any flaws. Some major ray traced lighting going there. I wonder how much of that will remain in the final console version. And how much that will hurt PCs when it eventually moves there. A far future problem I suppose.
So what the heck is an 'indie game' nowadays anyway?

Quoting: RomlokIf we take game awards as a celebration of games as an art form, rather than as a business, then the independence that should matter most IMO is that of the artistry. But it starts with finances. The second a publishers pays for development, they will have a say in what happens. Artistic independence comes from financial independence.

Indie should be developed independently. So, developed without publisher money. Sure, that includes some pretty big games, but it's still the only definition that means anything.

This should fix most flat2vr type games, which require running the application at double headset framerate to generate stereo image pairs.flat2vr is new to me. Is there anything that works with that? Does it work on Linux?
Xorg is dead, long live Wayland - Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) dropping Xorg

Quoting: sharkcheeseTrue, and maybe this announcement will see some of the major bottlenecks improve over the next 18 months. But still, the E part in RHEL is not necessarily known for being cutting edge. Especially the graphics/animation industry that heavily relies on nvidia may just choose to stick with RHEL9 for a much longer time than RH wants.Quoting: BlackBloodRumI like Wayland, and generally support it.It's always going to be too soon, but trial by fire is the only way new FOSS APIs ever make it over the finish line. Supporting a protocol no one uses doesn't make a whole lot of sense in terms of time investment, but if it's made the default it heavily incentivizes fixing those problems out of necessity.
But I honestly feel it's too soon for something like RHEL to outright drop Xorg entirely. There could be a whole heap of legacy enterprise applications which don't place nicely with Xwayland.
So things will be rough for a while. Change is hard.
