I have a million old games that I still have to play. Wake me up when the bubble has burst!

Quoting: EikeWould that be Black Mesa then?
There are arguments to be made for both the original and Black Mesa, so if graphics are appreciated then Black Mesa is definitely a good choice. HL2 still holds up by itself. I'd definitely recommend doing those before HL:Alyx though.

According to Epic CEO Tim Sweeney - game stores don't need an AI label as it will be everywhere

Quoting: Kimyrielle@Ehvis, the point being made by Sweeney (which I have to agree with him on, even when it pains me to have to take his side) is that it's utterly pointless to require labeling, if close to 100% of all games are using the tech anyway. That's like requiring a "contains nuts" label on a pack of peanuts. Sure, you can do that. It just doesn't make any sense.
The labelling is not just about the "if". It's about the "how".

Quoting: KimyrielleIt's not just the indies that use AI coding tools. I guess they're actually slower with adopting these than the big studios, where the managers jumped out of their seats when somebody pointed at ChatGPT and said "productivity gains here!!!".
Thing is that these tools DO make you more productive, if you're using them right (which is why they're getting adopted by coders). Some less-than-competent managers thought they can fully replace SWE jobs though, and they just can't. Also, the productivity increase isn't 1000%, or whatever these clowns said it would be. But 10% is probably realistic. You save a lot of time by just not having to ask/look around StackExchange a lot anymore, and by letting the AI code some standard problems for you.

What I personally don't get is some people saying "Yeah...I guess AI is fine for coding, but it can't EVER be allowed to do art!!!" I am not sure I understand the difference. I am pretty sure there are several ten thousand lines of my code in all of the larger models. At least I would be insulted if they hadn't gobbled up my stuff from GitHub while they gobbled up everyone else's. And no, I didn't get asked, either. It's really the same thing as using images or songs. The irony is that as far as I can tell, as of today a lot more coders lost their job over AI than artists. People just don't defend coders with the same vigor. ;)
Just because they *can* be used right, doesn't mean that they are. So let them disclose it. Disclosure are always good for the consumer. But those people advocating to hide that must have something to hide.

But I can surely entertain the idea that the concept should be reversed: not an "AI generated content" badge but rather an "AI content free" one.
This is the most logical approach. And maybe a category to search by "Human-made".
I'd like an option to filter my Steam experience based on that. I wonder how many people would choose to do that if a feature like that was there. If it's high and it was reflected in the steamworks backend, then it might actually be effective. Of course, it might push devs to lie on the page and just claim "mistake" when they get caught.

Blending classic survival games with automation - ORMOD: Directive sounds interesting

Even in the first two seconds the disgusting smearing of modern rendering was taking center stage. I'm tired of it. I'll find something in my backlog that doesn't annoy me in the first second.

Megabonk from vedinad has withdrawn from The Game Awards 2025

To me, indie means creatively independent. Which automatically means financially independent. This also means that if you even have a publisher, it must be one that is paid for their services instead of the other way around. I wonder how hard it would be to fill the "indie" category with just games/developers that fit into this description.

HYPED! Oh wait, no, I'm not. One more reason to refund a game I guess.

I, too, think that it is a mistake. If that is the desired criterion for the Debut category, it is practically impossible to find (and confirm) suitable candidates. I assume that most of the other games would face the same issue – it is practically impossible to be able to sell the first game or any piece of software made without prior experience.
A bit different here since because since launch people have speculated that this is DaniDev (with a reversed name), a youtuber that has made several games on Steam. If that is true, then it would be a bit too problematic for the future.

Under strategy, no Anno 117 but instead Civ 7 is nominated? GTFO with these "awards".
Probably released too late to be included for this year.
