Quoting: Liam DaweAlso as a note: since July 30 is my birthday our thoughts on it may be delayed ;)So what you really want to say is that you want to play and not write about it. But really, we all have to work on our birthdays, can't leave us in the dark!

I can imagine that it's hard to get seen in the flood of games. Especially in the roguelike segment where you're not exactly alone. Need some luck there I think.
Still a very good show to get a full game on there at 17. Even if motivation was a problem, you still managed to get through it and get it done. Don't think I would have replicated that at that age.

Godot 4.0 will get SDF based real-time global illumination

Quoting: NagezahnThere's another demonstration video available which, for a graphics tech noob like me, illustrates very well what global illumination can do for your game. I was very impressed:Thanks, that video seems much better to me at showing what it does. A clear demonstration of indirect lighting. Seems they did keep tonemapping turned off, which means the insides look extremely dark. It also demonstrates a downside of the system. Since the probes don't extend far from the camera, there are visual lighting changes when scenery comes into the view of the probes. But it's still early, so they may be able to improve these transitions. Still would be interested to see a properly textured scene with a transition with all the bells and whistles turned on from darker low level interior lighting to full sunlight outside. These transitions have always been problematic for current rendering engines.

Open source OpenXR runtime 'Monado' expands with multi-application support

Seems Monado has progressed since I last checked. The Valve Index is directly supported and has rotational support and distortion correction. Positional support with lighthouse 2 is in its initial state. Also interesting is that there is support for libsurvive (new to me) which apparently has support for the Vive (pro) and Index complete with positional support. So all in all it seems the open source initiatives are catching up.

Quoting: razing32I played this a while back with friends. That depends on whether or not you know what you're doing. Currently in a game around day 165, but haven't die since day 12. By day 50 we were pretty much OP. So it might seem grindy if you're also trying to figure things out, but if you do progression is fairly quick.
Kinda lost intrest when an update made progression more grindy.(to skills)
Is it sitll the case ?
Beyond a Steel Sky to release for Linux PC during July

Quoting: wolfyrionI dont remember anything about Beyond a Steel Sky :unsure:I remember that I finished it. It is one of those games that have been in the Ubuntu repos since the beginning of time (approximately) so it was a long time ago. Apart from a few iconic scenes, I don't remember the story at all. So my question is now, do I replay the Beneath a Steel Sky before this one and will I have time.
I dont remember if I finish it or rage quit
I guess I will have to play it again....

Quoting: x_wingThe game works. The only problem is an erroneous deploy on Steam + a bug on the content selection. The attitude makes me remember by a lot to Garry Newman.I tried it a week or two ago and it crashed on startup with no immediately clear indication of what the problem was.

So why not make it optional? This whole non-steam cloud save thing is only for people that want to cross play with mobile. I imagine that a good share of people in Steam has no intention to. It would be much better if it's something that was opt-in for those that want it. One simple option to enable it and that big bright warning can be removed from the Steam page.

Quoting: FellhuhnSo there is no mischief or data piracy or whatever at work. :)This is not just about privacy, this is about the value of a product. Buying from Steam already means that Valve needs to do their job for me to be able to play the game. The statement on the store page now says that it needs another (for me unknown) party to do their job to play the game. Way back I made my own decision that third party (or more) dependencies are of no value to me and are disqualified for purchase (for single player games). So yes, that means that I don't purchase any games that add required launchers, external accounts or drm systems like denuvo.

The performance argument is a bit of a non-issue. Yes, it is true, but it is true for all UE4 games. The real problem appears to be that the dev(s) are much better at designing games (Supraland was awesome when it still worked), but not so good at the technical side of things. Even with the performance loss, it should have been fine on Linux. The way that later updates got broken was curious. The crash was not something common to UE4 games on Linux, so it's very possible that this is a platform independent bug. It should have been fixed because this may at some point start affecting Windows as well. If they are going to do Supraland 2 and investigating it now would have prevented it.
