Wednesday Madness, a quick look at some good Linux gaming deals

And oh, if anyone wants any of the games in the positive bundle but can't pay, PM, I have steam keys to gift. I want to keep Underrail despite being Windows only (it works in wine, and I am interested in trying it out) but the rest I do not care about.

I got the Humble Positive Bundle for Curious Expedition, that game seems to never go down very much in price, so 10 dollars for it is sort of a bargain.

And it is really good! Very captivating, easy to play in short bursts, a great story machine - I am currently exploring with an all female team led by Marie Kingsley, we are pacifist, but our translator has developed a bad case of pyromania and sets stuff on fire all the time. The art and music are great. Reminds me of FTL but with more narrative and depth.

The developer seems very nice too, recently there was a big update adding arctic areas and some new mechanics, and that is included in the base game, they don't charge for it or anything, which seems nice. And yeah, linux support just works, no tweaking no nothing needed.

So, I played… Undertale

I liked Undertale alot, it was really funny and moving, and surprising! I just wanted to contribute that you can use qjoypad (available in ubuntu repos, and probably elsewhere) to map the keyboard buttons to your gamepad (works with my SNES-like one). Useful software!

Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition officially announced with Linux support

Quoting: tmtvlUnfortunately the gameplay sucks so much that I just can't enjoy it. This game would really benefit from the random encounters being removed. Or even better: all the combat being removed.
If the other EE games are anything to go by, they will hopefully add a "Story Mode" where you can just let the ai smash foes while you alt-tab out. I play BG1:EE now and the combat is mostly just annoying.

It looks like we may be getting a Planescape Torment Enhanced Edition

Quoting: EikeI never even had heard about Planescape: Torment until 2016. I wonder if I should fetch it. Heard great things.
If you like cRPGs, then absolutely yes. It has a great story, though the GUI could have been better.

I just hope Beamdog keep themselves to making the enhanced addition without having to add extra NPCs and stuff. In general, their stuff is absolutely awful, as seen in the 2 enhanced BG games they made.
I think Neera in BG1:EE is awesome ^___^

YAY HOW AWESOME! I've been waiting for this. Too bad it will probably be quite expensive -_____-

Quoting: FeistFantastic! I´ve been waiting for the enhanced edition of "Icewind Dale" for a long time now (and keeping my fingers crossed for IWDII as well) but I didn´t dare to hope for "Torment".

The new "Beamdog Client" sounds interesting as well:

"Sharp eyed users will notice the new Beamdog Client supports products on Mac (we’ve specifically designed it to work well with Sierra) and Linux. Though Linux users will see an empty list where games should be, perhaps that’s a sign of things to come in the future. ;)
They already have Icewind Dale: EE on gog [External Link], I got it in a sale a while back and I just love they way there are NO loadingtimes, nada, everything is just great. The writing in that game is not superb though, I bought it for nostalgia. I played ID more than Baldurs Gate when I was a kid.

Quoting: buenaventuraI so want this! I just wish I had a demo so that I could try the performance of my roughly minimum-spec laptop.
Afaik, it's based on the source engine. Maybe you got Insurgency or CS:Go and try them.
Or you refund if it's not working out.
True, I can refund, that's nice. I'll try this soon! Used to really enjoy CoD United Offensive.

You will want to force your CPU into high performance mode for Vulkan games on Linux

Quoting: buenaventurashedutil <--- INTRUIGING, what is this? I google and it seems like some newfangled stuff? I wonder if that will be even better than Performance!

Still, why does it only go up to 2,00ghz? Says right on the sticker on my lappy "up to 2.4 ghz", bullshiet :P
If you want to use the 2.4GHz with schedutil governor add intel_pstate=passive in the boot kernel line. I'm using it and my hasswell cpu in the laptop has lower temperature than using only intel_pstate (powersave / performance) when there's not much load.
Well my CPU is an AMD A8-6410, so I guess I can't do that right?

I still wonder how I can get it to be 2.4 and not just 2. You would think that that would make a difference.
