F1 2017 released for Linux as Feral Interactive’s first Vulkan-only title, here’s a port report

I'm glad when people can use dual boot. But it is hardly an alternative for everyone. The Feral Ports have always been great. They do a good job.

Quoting: GrazenI bought it but frankly after reading this I'm going to run it in Windows. I have a GTX 1060 and based on this report it will run closer to the performance of a GTX 950 in Linux. I see no reason to suffer through horrible framerates and crappy performance just to support Feral's crappy port. You and some others do not understand that not all people have the luxury to use several OS. I just have not the time and I'm very grateful to Feral now and again to get an AAA title for my platform that I have to use. Between 10 or 20% of the time I play maybe, the rest of the day I have to do something else unfortunately. And I need Linux for that. Sometimes I only play 15 minutes in between. I can not boot my entire working environment every time.

Linux marketshare on Steam dropped again in October, as China takes a massive chunk of the market

People will only change when the benefits of Linux become overwhelming.
This is exactly what happened on the server market. Anyone who only uses Windows in the server area goes broke. In the desktop area this is by no means the case so far.

Quoting: peterp771I never did believe the arguments that Linux Steam market share is low because of driver issues or not enough games or performance issues etc as others often say. Linux started off at 2% and drivers today are much better than they were in 2013 and we have lots more games including several AAA titles. Linux gaming has made huge strives since then and to go backwards in marketshare makes no sense, unless you count all the new Chinese users coming online. It makes sense. While Microsoft has aggressive marketing and Linux nearly none.

Quoting: aejsmithI said to use the NVIDIA installer "if necessary" :) Definitely if there's a PPA or whatever available then it'd be better to use that. I just meant to install it manually if you have no better option to get that version.Thank you for clarification.

???
Serious question.
In my understanding, all I need is the 384.90 driver. I can get it through the PPA.
Which driver does Ubuntu 17.10 currently use?

Quoting: aejsmithI installed the NVIDIA driver using their installer earlier today on Ubuntu and it worked fine? Disable the PPA driver first, blacklist nouveau, and then run the NVIDIA installer. Why not using:

Linux game sales statistics from multiple developers, part 5

I hope Feral continues its very good work. It would be a loss that could not be replaced.
I wonder if it would not be possible for Feral to fund some titles via crowdfunding. This is also always quite good advertising.
Piracy its a absolute shame. There are so many sales. If I have to have the game necessarily at the show, then I pay the full price.

However, we are disappointed by the promotion of piracy by some, which does disproportionate damage to the economics of bringing games to an already small platform. But the Games are protected by Valves DRM. Is this less effective on Linux?

Thanks for your efforts Liam but such nonsense is not worth the attention.
The Witcher 3 didn't come to Linux likely as a result of the user-backlash from The Witcher 2

Personally, I do not think so. There should be other reasons. There are as many attacks from Windows or console users. That just does not make any sense. Are they also throwing away their Android smartphones, because of rude comments from Linus about Nvidia?

Would love Nier: Automata too, but I think Tomb Raider makes much more sense, because they sold so much copies. But whatever it's going to be, it's going to be cool like all Feral ports.
