I think the Civ V rumor is due to the screenshot in the SteamOS announcement. On one side, Valve will be announcing some AAA native Linux titles, and it could be one of them. On the other side, being a turn-based strategy title with modern graphics, yet not framerate-bound, nor particularly dependent on controller latency, it is possible that it is the sort of game intended to showcase the streaming functionality.

Yeah, Edgley, definitely! In this case, the project didn't exist when we picked our Gems on Sunday/Monday.
The next edition on the 16th should (roughly) cover October 1st through October 14th or so.

I don't mind stretch goals for simultaneous release. From what small indie developers have told us, it's incredibly stressful to do so. If stretch goals help them bring in somebody for a week or two to help out during the launch window with patches, triage, testing, etc., then I can understand.
It's stretch goals for the existence of a port which sour my enthusiasm. On those, I usually mark the start (KS) or heart (IGG) and ignore the project until the reminders go out. Usually by then we have a nice list of add-ons, and any reward-tier crises are cleared up by then as well. At worst, I miss out on a discounted early-bird tier, but I don't really mind losing that discount to gain certainty. It's rarely more than a few dollars anyway.

Sad to lose another Linux-friendly developer, and such a strong supporter of GOL as well. I hope this break from business stress gives him the time to recover his health and spend time with his family. I fully understand the pressures of family life and career, balanced with a passionate side interest, and have suffered similarly. Fortunately, my health is not in a problematic state, and other aspects of my career have afforded me comforts to help make my lifestyle possible.
I've seen this kind of economic/physical/psychological burnout happen before. The common thread is that a person can only handle so much without the resources coming in to help recover/recharge oneself. Despite this heart breaking result, I seriously doubt that Troy will be out of games forever. In today's competitive and volatile games market, companies are crushed by economic realities every day, in similarly tragic circumstance, but after producing so many titles, I kind of think it's in his blood. It may not be a My Game Company title specifically, but I strongly suspect he'll be back someday with a passion project sitting on a slow burner and it will be something pretty cool, I'd wager.
Games are just too awesome to get out of your system completely :)

Half-Life 3 Has Been Trademarked By Valve

Through the trademark office?! Weakest confirmation ever, Valve :D
Seriously though, Valve aren't idiots. If they made it an exclusive, they know that the hate would be bad, and the other (albeit lame) players in digital distribution would have a field day, sort of like the XBone/PS4 fiasco. Also, it would make me sad because that's just not the "Linux way" to be. I don't want Windows, Mac, or console gamers to have a bad day, I just want to also be considered. I think there will be simultaneous launches, and that will make me plenty happy.
Special hats and trading cards, however... well, that's almost guaranteed, I would think!
