Poltergeist: Pixelated Horror, A Reverse-Horror Game with Gameplay from the New Guy

I'd love to add another welcome to the chorus!
I feel that Liam was making good progress, in regards to his video casting, but I think it was causing him significant frustration (if his twitter remarks were anything to go by). Just running the website itself is plenty of work, but chasing down leads and doing write-ups is incredibly time-consuming (this I know from my own meager contributions).
The Pixelated Horror video was good! Thanks for sharing with us. The game reminds me somewhat of a Flash game called Haunt The House [External Link] by some devs I backed on a Kickstarter project.
I wish I were more musically inclined so I could contribute a nice background riff to the GOL Cast intro screens :whistle:

Sir is in my Humble account, and the Linux build can be downloaded directly or via the provided torrent (which I always use). Anyone know if we're embargoed on videos? I suppose I could put something incredibly amateurish together for everyone's viewing pleasure if I could manage to clear my schedule at all.
I have no Steam key so I wouldn't be able to check that out anyway.

Not too much of a visual-novel guy myself, but I thought it would be good to point out that it's been available for Linux directly [External Link] from Christine's site [External Link], and also on Desura [External Link], for a long time now. Folks who may not be Steam inclined might choose to buy it that way.
Without knowing more, I would suspect the issue in bringing it to Steam is somewhere between Ren'Py & Steamworks on Linux for achievements and stuff, since Steam's Linux support is still pretty new.

Ever since Tie Fighter and Descent, I've thoroughly enjoyed six-axis combat games, both in space and "sort of in space" (like Descent). This is looking super! SSZ is probably better looking (so far), but graphics aren't everything, and there is certainly space for many different takes on space games!
In fact, I've thoroughly enjoyed the betas of Drifter, with it's Wing Commander: Privateer style of 2.5D (four-axis) flight!
There's just something magical about space games. It's also a great excuse to bust out my flight-stick, which just feels so fantastic to use. I don't care if mouse & keyboard are somehow scientifically proven to yield superior controls, with a nice joystick I can put myself in the cockpit and lose the world around me for a time :D

Great coverage Liam! I'm super excited about this one.
One detail I'd like to add, it's also available DRM-free via the Humble Store widget on their site: http://www.gonehomegame.com/ [External Link]
Although, being attacked, stuck & frustrated were some of my most memorable early King's Quest and Space Quest experiences...

Quoting: Speedster"Platforms: Mainly for Windows, Mac and Linux via Steam and our website. iOS and Android will have a different version to the PC counterparts due to limitations. We are also working to have the game released on PlayStation 4 and other platforms but is yet to be confirmed."It is buried, but does appear to offer a (potentially DRM-free) download via their website. A backer ought to corner them into making some kind of crystal-clear statement.

Quoting: KristianHow about turn-based strategy? Tactical games can be loads of fun! Just drop twitch-style games, and you'll be right as rain.Quoting: Quote from philip550cYes but I can't beat the second level of Duke3D, after trying intermittently for the last 15+ years... I really do suck at games. Majorly.Quoting: Quote from Quote from KristianJust look at what they did with The Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition. Also they support mod tools. I am a huge advocate for mod tools. So for reasons like that I would say that the GOG situation is complicated. But overall I still very much consider them good guys. I just have some pessimistic tendencies and I am going overboard NOT to get too excited.What did they do with Witcher2?
Call it 3D Realms forums regular syndrome if you want... all those years hearing magazines hype their next cover followed by people in the DNF forums starting threads speculating that it wold be DNF(Which I ended up enjoying as one of only three FPS games I have completed from beginning to end(What can I say, I suck as a gamer), the others being Quake 1 and Bioshock Infinite).
And you beat all 4 episodes of Quake1 ? I play that game at least once a month still and I haven't beaten it yet lol

From my personal experience in the tech industry, I would place the time between hiring a resource to implement something like a GOG infrastructure for Linux, and actually launching it, to be no less than 6 months. However, I believe it to be longer than that, perhaps a year or so, and of course, since at most 30% of all software projects even launch, it could easily be cancelled. I can't imagine this happening "soon", or anything that remotely looks like "soon".
Though, the description is quite telling:
<pure unsubstantiated speculation>
I think they're going after Valve, but in a Desura-like way (i.e., giving customers a choice to not use it). If that is true, than I believe that they'll require web-accessible standalone downloads for all supported platforms, as opposed to Desura which simply offers that functionality to its game devs. I believe that this is something GOG have been planning for a while, and that it will go forward, regardless of the state of Linux support (which may not materialize).
</speculation>
One thing important to notice; no job listings have appeared for Linux QA testers (unless that was the QA position that is no longer listed). For something as big as a new platform, you'd expect 1-3 dedicated QA engineers to be hired on, with platform-specific qualifications.

Shape and develop next generation of multi-platform desktop software, experienced by millions of users every monthThis is certainly not an internal tool to be developed; rather, it is clearly some sort of desktop client.
