Crypt Run just shy of Linux stretch goal

Thanks for visiting us, Matt! Looking forward to your game. It has a very Binding of Isaac feel to it, but the promise to be properly supported on Linux (Isaac is just a wrapped Flash game in Linux, and the dev isn't really interested in us).
I commented on Crypt Run under our latest issue of The Funding Crowd, our weekly crowd-funding roundup, and requested coverage from our crowd-funding experts on the next issue (should be on Monday or Tuesday). Also, the lead writer of that column has already updated our crowd-funded Linux games wiki to reflect the new stretch goal!
I'm sure the final $800 to Linux will come through in short order. :)

Crypt Run [External Link] just lowered it's previous Linux stretch goal from $10,000 (out of a funding goal of $5k) to $6,500 due to Liam's prodding (I think?). Apparently they chose to take a serious look at the technical requirements, and were able to hack together a tech demo on Ubuntu during the campaign.
They expect that it will require a week of effort to port thoroughly, and support the major distros (which is how they arrived at their $1.5k goal). They're funded around $5,500 currently, with a bit less than $1k to reach the goal, and I'll go help them out :)
I think this is worth covering them in The Funding Crowd 13 (oooh! what will the article picture be next time!)

KR-17 [External Link] just made it's goal, miraculously, earlier today! I guess that what Speedster suggested must have actually happened. So, that's a nice success for Linux and also for OUYA.

Well stated, Liam.
Also, I just noticed... the Groupees has Rune :><: Damnit, it makes me so furious that good old ports are rendered dead on the vine. That would be a prime candidate for GOG games for Linux. They could totally launch with lightly-massaged and updated versions of the Loki catalog, the Runesoft catalog, and about two-dozen other cool odds-and-ends.
I don't suppose the Linux client is somehow "silently" bundled with the default Rune installer, is it?

Yeah, beware Oniken. The developer makes awesome, retro-styled games (for example, they're running an IndieGoGo campaign for their next project, Odallus: The Dark Call, which looks amazing... but there will be no Linux version), but they were perfectly content to sell a Wine game as a native port.
To them, there's really no difference as long as you can play the game. In fact, the statement you're quoting wasn't even there until people complained. Of course, there *is* a difference, even if you can play a game (XDG savegame locations amongst other concerns), but frequently, something goes wrong and my previously playable configuration breaks for various reasons.
Often, I need to use bottles or PlayOnLinux to manage multiple Wine versions, and have a fair bit of Windows knowledge to get things working properly. This is an annoyance and a hassle to me personally, but others swear by it.

Quoting: muntdefemsWhat I don't get is why would anyone want to watch a movie on Steam? Do you also get achievements, or badges, or whatever? :huh:Thanks for asking... I had the exact same question, but was worried it would offend the Steam fans if I asked

Ok, I have casted Souls and Escaped Goats now... and went ahead and got King Arthur's Gold as well (to put up a pro-Linux message on the leaderboard). Of course, that lasted a day :P
Luckily, somebody else put up @gamingonlinux in the leaderboard so we're OK.
Speaking of luck... I hope I'm lucky enough for the next mystery IGS game to support Linux!

It has a really fun Zelda-like feel to it, but it's still pretty unique & features a bit of irreverent humor. I've played the demo/trial version of it, and am pretty interested in buying it when it's supported on Linux.
